Hello. I've been perusing your place for a few days. It's good to see this game is still alive.
I figured out how to use the XWIS thing, and managed to play a few online games (It's been a looong time).
I'm usually not a fan of vs. human online play because it entails knowing lots before you even deploy your MCV (factions, build order, etc), but I'd like to learn more.
Are there any rule of thumb absolutes in certain situations? For instance, you have [x] amount of cash, [x] defense and tech. Opponent does [x] and you respond in a certain way? I know enough of the basics to understand which unit defeats which.
I was recently crushed in a 2vs2 + 2 allied comps. Partly because my ally spazzed and left, and because my Rhinos were overtaken by GGI BFs (Thought I did manage to seriously delay them by using fodder + terror drones + distracting V3 missiles).
What could I have done to repulse the attack completely, and bring the fight to the enemy, if it were 1 on 1?
(I hate unlimited cash maps. They remove so much strategy from the game)
Sorry for making this partly an intro thread :x

Most of your cash must go to tanks and to economy so you can build even more tanks. When you have a decent economy for a while, then you either make more war factories or you tech up, or a mix of it.
Make sure you are around 1000 credits at all times, not much under, but also nut much above it! if you have alot of cash, like 5000 credits, it's ussually a bad thing. It means that you aren't making enough units and/or not fast enough.
Don't spend money on defences, except when u are been attacked and know that u r not in the advantage, then you could up a sentry inbetween you and your enemy units (and that's why you keep that 1000 credits). Infantry are good on small maps as fodder or when been attacked. When you have a low economy, make low cost infantry like conscripts and/or dogs. When you have a high economy, make high cost infantry like tesla troopers and/or desos.

-If you have enough rhino tanks, you just run past the BFs (DO NOT TARGET THE BFs! It'll slow your rhinoes really down).
-If you have not enough rhinoes, retreat to your base and when the BFs try to attack, put up a sentry. The BFs will target the sentry and not your rhinoes, as long as the sentry is in range of the GGIs inside (and that's 10 cells, to be exact). Then you can come out with rhinoes (but retreat when the BF is out of the range of the sentry and not reached in range of the rhinoes).

Me too. Don't play them, neither TOE in custom match (it is always played the wrong way).

TYYM. I had not considered some of those strategies.

It's tough because GGI-BFs are overpowered in YR, which is one reason I like RA2's gameplay better although I like YR for 3v3s and the extra maps and for choosing your starting spots.
One thing you can do as Soviets is that YR slows down the build of grizzlies more than Rhinos - they both build at almost the same speed. So if you attack with 5-10 Rhinos in YR the Allies probably have 7-14 Grizz to make it even. But in YR they'll also have 5-10 Grizzlies and extra cash that they can't build tank with. So go in early and wipe out their tank force. They can use that extra case on some infantry and sentries, but that won't protect their miners very easily.
The problem comes in 2v2s. Now you can't charge in by yourself b/c you'll be fighting 2 people. So the Allies will likely get GGI-BFs unless your mate helps you rush. You'll just have to fight them.
As truefeel said, a group of Rhinos can beat a group of GGI-BFs. It's tough b/c they are overpowered, but it's possible. If you can fight in your base and pop up a few sentries that's good b/c GGI's might auto-target the sentries and the GGIs suck against base defenses so those are great fodder.
The real key is this:
If you have enough rhino tanks, you just run past the BFs (DO NOT TARGET THE BFs! It'll slow your rhinoes really down).
And I should also add CLICK ONCE AND THAT'S IT. When you click for a tank to move, it's turret spins to face forward. So click on the ground behind the BFs and their turrets will spin forward right away and then they'll start moving their turrets on their own to fire. But if you click again, you lose shots b/c the turrets will spin forward and then have to spin back to re-target.
Also, wait until the BFs are coming AT you to click past them. If you click past them while they are already running away from you, you'll take forever to catch them and you'll lose many tanks in the meantime. If you do it while they're coming toward you, you'll close the gap and be in range much much quicker. NEVER build Apocs against GGI-BFs, they are too slow and cannot catch the fortress.

bfs should not be used in 2v2 at all except on certain circumstances.
yr is all about pressure and in 2v2 you cant pressure with a bf unless agian certain circumstances =S

GGI BFs shouldn't be used in 2 vs 2? I find them just as useful against two different colored scrap piles as one...

IMO, a BF is very good for pressuring. hit 'n run with it and always have your army at it's back can really let you win the match.
