I checked my computer using the trial version of StopZilla and it says I have 113 threats to my computer. Does anyone know of a good, freeware anti-virus program that actually removes threats and doesn't hog system resources?

The best last time i checked was AOL's antivirus, its based on kasperspy, so its nothing AOL made themselves. Its free and has the best detection/removal rate. If all else fails theres this thing called Hijackthis or Hi jack this, i dont remember, but it works well, its not a typical antivirus thing though, its a specialised program for severe cases or for things that antiviruses dont catch. Watch it though because you can mess things up even worse with it if you delete the wrong process or file.

AVG Free + Ad-aware SE + Spybot S&D is what I use.

I use AVG free version, it keeps itself updated and seems to work pretty well.

I'm pretty sure that the last time I used that, it quarantined a vital system file, and then I couldn't get into windows.

If that file was infected, you're probably right.

I've used Avast in the past for short periods of time on test PCs. I prefer Kaspersky and have purchased yearly licenses for about three years now.

Yes, thats exactly what I use. All three of those together get almost anything. Also, Avast is a great anti-virus program. Hijackthis is something you want to use only if you know what your doing. Also, If you're looking for a firewall, which you should have one, a good pick is either Comodo free firewall or ZoneAlarm's free firewall. Both are good and I recommend both.
