To start everything off, here is the news

CITY NETWORK NEWS-ALL THE NEWS YOU NEED

Good morning, Citizens of New York- this is Kenneth

And this is Barbara. It’s 0 hours, the dawning of day 250, leaving us with just 115 remaining in the year. It’s Fourday. Welcome to the Morning Edition of the City Network News- All the news you need!

Traffic is a little heavier along the Manhattan Main Corridor due to construction and upgraded software along several important secondaries. Traffic Control has assured us this is a temporary condition. The New York Transit Authority will be finished with the upgrades by Sevenday of next week.

Citizens are urged to plan accordingly and leave for their morning destinations at least 50 minutes early. TC is handling the detours and has declared the entire sub-sector a No Manual Pilot Zone for the duration.

Last night, Carl Ross was issued a rating of Recovered and Recuperated by his social worker and given a full discharge from R&R. A report from the Citizen Protection Service states that Citizen Ross sought help after recognizing he was suffering from minor anxiety.

Carl did the right thing.

Yes he did, Kenneth! It was after seeing a public service announcement during a segment of the Morning Edition about the symptoms of this disorder that Carl contacted the CPS

He saw that public service announcement while watching our show? That's amazing, Barbara.

It gave him the courage to seek the help he needed.

Way to go, Carl!

He starts his new job as an engineer for the Department of Reclamation this morning. Congratulations, Citizen Ross. Up next, a new addition to the Video Zoo!

Channel 265, Discussing the Issues- The Scientific Way

“As you can see from the data gathered by the INS Science Corp, radiation is too intense to support life. During the dark days pf the Pre-Closure, the use of nuclear power was common and unregulated. Nuclear power is unreliable and too dangerous. We have much safer means to generate electricity. Unusable organics from the hydroponics green house and raw sewage are sent to a series of fuel cells where they are broken down in a chemical process that not only provides us with power, but also a safe to use fertilizer.”

“Yet this isn’t our only source of power generation?”

“Certainly not. We also use wind power.”

“You’re talking about using the motion of air? How? Do you use fans to catch the air from the rushing of rotors through the traffic corridors?”

“No Jim- that would be impractical. There is a current of air constantly rushing over the outside hull of our dome. Though it’s toxic enough to kill anyone exposed to it, our scientists have developed a way to harness that power safely with the use of large air turbines placed to catch that current.”

“Isn’t the air very corrosive? I’ve heard legends speak of the deadly phenomena of acid rain.”

“Yes, however great strides have been made in creating materials that are highly resistant to these corrosive effects. Our fans last for years with minimal maintenance…”

Channel 7 Metro News-

“The terrorists had a large drum of an industrial acid they planned to transport to the Periphery and attempt to burn a small opening in the dome. Poor misguided- not only would it take years, they would have been killed instantly by the exposure to the level of toxicity found in the air Outside.”

“Any connection to the Exodus Society, Officer Gonzalez?”

“The Exodus Society is an urban legend. Some years ago a small group of college students started it as a joke on the net. Every now and then some delusional citizen perpetrates some mildly anti-social act, claiming to be an Outie. Fortunately, a few counseling sessions supervised by a social worker takes care of that. It’s the same with this case- an act inspired by an old prank. At least these citizens will get the help they need.”

“We can be all thankful for that. This is Brad Eriksen of Channel 7 Metro News reporting live from the warehouse district. Now back to you, Tonya”

"Was that call for me?" Brone yells at his Desk Clerk.

"No, it's for me," Tyra shouts back.

"Alright, but could you please get off the phone, I am a bit edgy about..."

"I know, I know, you are waiting for that call from your writing agent, but I might have told him to email you," Tyra says lazily.

Brone comes out of his office and looks blankly at Tyra, "You didn't... Tyra, I have not looked at my email in three days at least."

"I am sorry, I was sure I had written it down somewhere, but... Ooh, break time," Tyra then speeds out.

Brone moves back into his office and checks his email, and there are no emails, he then moves back to his work. He starts writing out some of his budget goals. He begins to quickly check his messages, and it appears that he has one message from his boss, and it reads that he is to go to finance and put in some numbers on new advertising products. He is depressed as he could miss his writing chance.

Brone returns to his office on Christmas Eve, but nothing about his writing career, but there was a bonus from his boss, and an invitation to stay with Gob on this Eve. Brone started down the office, maybe Gob had someone with a connection in writing...

"Ruth, there is a message for you" came a voice from the speakers. "Answer it", Ruth spoke back to the computer. A new window opened up and the face of Benson Baines appeared on the screen.

"Ruth, we've got a couple of assigments today that require you to be on-site as soon as possible with a few inspectors."

"Must I? I just started looking over these plans for that new technological corporation that proposed developing - "

"I know, but they can wait. Down on Q level is a media center that was recently granted license to attempt to provide wireless downloads to the whole level. We've received complaints that the signal is so strong its interfering with nearby electronics. After that we need you up on B for a surprise inspection of Aerolabs - we need to make sure their proposed purification system meets all legal specifications."

"You've got the travel data ready?"

"Already had the TC information loaded into your rotors computer. I had it map out the whole trip, even the parts you could navigate yourself, in case you wanted to try and get some work done en route."

"Of course I shall. Thank you" was what she replied, but in her mind she thought "Just in case? As if I have a choice with all the extra work I'm swamped with." After the conversation ended, she grabbed her briefcase, paged for an inspection team to meet her, and headed down to the rotor. She was always a bit nervous about heading down to the lower levels.

"here is the report chief." Joe Wilkerson said while sending the file online. The chief, real name Deman Alercot, opened up the report and briefly read it, mumbling to himself. Joe only caught a few words like "break in" "Explosion" "Reporter stunned" and "police wounded"

after a few moments the chief dismissed him. Joe, after that grueling paper work, set out on patrol to himself busy. ever since that incident with the Exodus Society, everyone has been a little jumpy around the station. and Joe wanted to get away from that at least for a while.

(ooc) hope this picks up after the holidays

*Sigh*... "Look at all those people bustling around town..." Rigel said to himself. "Almost makes me wish I had something to do." This was beginning to become a habit of Rigel's, staring out the window dejectedly, wishing that his family hadn't been taken away.

It was all he really could do, with no job, very few friends at school, and a barely legal prescence in his home, which was left for him to occupy alone after his family was taken away. "I don't even know how or why it happened," Rigel said aloud to himself, "They just came in one day and hauled everyone but me." Rigel was told he would see them sometime again, but after 4 weeks, they haven't even contacted him in any of the many ways possible.

He violently kicked his bedsheets off, swearing to himself. It was almost depressing; he had never felt more alone in his life. His only real companion came standard with every human in the city. Just some stupid keyboard and a screen with a talking AI.

Ruth had meant to spend her time en route to Q level going over all the Aerolabs documents, but she spend most of it asleep in the rotor instead - a consequent of getting only 3 hours of sleep the previous night drawing up a proposal for Baines, only to find out that Baines' boss had overruled the whole idea. She never even had to show anyone the presentation. The wasted night spent in preparation was irksome. The department was full of well-meaning people, but the heirarchy was too complex. There were too many tiers of bosses who couldn't possibly keep track of what all their subordinates had told all of their subordinates to tell their subordinates.

Finally the trip was over and she arrived at the site. The difference in aesthetics between Q and D levels was quite noticeable, and only the small lettering above a nondescript door spelling out "Wireless Innovators" clued her in to the right location, besides, of course, the fact that there was no good reason to ever doubt the TC system.

As she walked toward it, an elderly man walked quickly down the sidewalk toward her. "I'm all out of LU until next week, can you please get me something to eat down the street - " but she pretended she didn't hear him as she walked inside. Besides, her hearing wasn't that great anyway, she rationalized to herself. The inspection team wasn't there yet. "May I help you?" asked the skinny young man behind the front desk.

Two levels above this, Elia was sitting by herself in a corner of one of the many study halls, pouring over her history homework. History was a subject she was interested in, but it was annoying how self-congratulatory the textbooks seemed. The only thing that mattered about the pre-enclosure times were all the problems that existed and how the Founding Protectors solved them.

At least this was a simple homework set, since it was still near the beginning of the 3rd and final Trimester of the year. "1. Put the following major events in order from first to last." This was mostly stuff that had been hammered into kids' heads periodically ever since intermediate school, so it was almost like a review. She scribbed them down in the empty space provided: "First World War - Great Depression - Second World War - Bhopal Chemical Spill - Soviet Union Collapses - Nuclear Terrorist Bombs Jerusalem - Military Coup in China - Chinese-American War - St. Laurent Reactor Meltdown - First Global Protectorate Formed - Iranian Civil War - World Stock Market Hacked - Mars Colonization Attempt Fails - United States Collapses - Third World War - German and French Riots lead to Anarchy - Second Global Protectorate Formed - First Arcology Created - Nigerian Truce Initiative - International Civilization Accord Signed.

She knew this stuff like the back of her hand. The next questions weren't especially harder, she was pretty sure she knew them all - but they sure required a lot of writing to explain things.

"2. The two main theories behind the St. Laurent Reactor Meltdown were terrorist sabotage and operator error. Explain in detail the evidence for each, and explain how the excellent current power systems provided by our Great Society have improved over unsafe nuclear designs and are safe from both."

"3. Explain the difference between the First Global Protectorate and the Second Global Protectorate, and why these differences meant that the First was unable to stop terrorism, crime, slavery, drugs, and poverty, or to persuade the nations of the earth to give up their atomic weapons, but the Second could overcome the difficulties of even a worldwide war to become the Founding Protectors of the glorious society we enjoy today."

She looked at her Time Display. Only 80 minutes till her huge chunk of classes. This was going to hurt her wrist.
