I've been trying to figure out a way to make a created map go under the official folder. Is this even possible? I want to play some of my maps online, but I hate having them never count for a loss/win....

I have been able to do this with a map, but it's tough & it doesn't work online. I tried hosting the map & it wouldn't allow the other player to accept. The only way to get it working is if the other player would have the map. Are you still interested?

Okay then, here's a link at cncgeneralsworld.com (another forum site) where I asked the same thing. MicScoTho gives a list of instructions for me that should help you too.

How to edit official maps is a different & easier story. Though you should've asked this in a new topic so that other members looking for the answer I'm about to give you can find it easier.

Anyway, I believe the official maps were supposed to appear in the System Maps section of the Open window in the World Builder. But EA Games put all the maps in a a BIG file which World Builder doesn't know to look in. So basically, all you need to do is extract the maps out of the BIG file, & they should appear there.
1) Download FinalBIG, http://cncden.com/cncgen_utility_downloads.shtml (It's near the bottom of the page. Basically, all this program does is allow you to view, import, & extract files that are in a BIG file.)
2) Go to the Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour game directory & open the MapsZH.big file with FinalBIG.
3) Click on, Edit -> Extract All (Mine-as-well extract them all so that you can edit them at any time from the Open window. You are sure you want to do this so hit Yes when it asks.)
4) Browse for the Zero Hour game directory & select the files to be extracted there. (See screen shot.)

The extraction may take a few seconds but after that, you should see every official map in the System Maps section of the Open window in the the World Builder! Have fun editing them!

When you edit these maps, it does not make a permanent edit, you can always extract the maps again. When Zero Hour sees that it has the same files outside a BIG file (extracted) as is in a BIG file, it uses the extracted files instead.

Let me know if any of this sounds confusing to you & I'll explain it in more detail.

ok, sorry to kinda "revive" this thread, I'm trying to edit a official map. So I downloaded the finalBIG file, and did everything you said until step 2. When I open the C&C zero hour folder, I don't see anything MapZH.big. I see the map folder but thats it. and the only thing in the map folder is unofficial maps. Am I missing something here???

Nah, you're not missing anything. You're just in the Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data folder. Go to the Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour in this location: C:\Program Files\EA Games\
