View Full Version : A movie has never made me cry before. (I Am Legend)

And it still hasn't.

However, I almost cried during I Am Legend.

Sam! Samantha!

Sam and Will were more than best friends. They were soulmates, and each other's only companion.

Seriously, that scene when he is forced to kill Sam was the saddest scene I've ever seen in a movie. I think this is because I feel much more for dogs than I do for humans. Anyway, my gut was seriously wrenched when Will was sitting there holding Samantha singing Bob Marley's Three Little Birds. "Everything is going to be all right."

But yeah. If no one else has seen this movie, then we can discuss how Will Smith is the man.

I'll wait to click that spoiler, as I'm off to see it soon!

It doesn't come out in the cinemas until Boxing day here. So give it a few days for the hype to die down and we'll be off to view!

The spoiler doesn't sound that new to me. Anyone watch Old Yeller?

Ricko, By reading your post there instantly made me think of something that happened in 'that' film, and if that's the case and something simular happens in this. I'ma come over there and slap you. >_>

Edit: Hehe, Guess I was right in that asumption then Ricko? xD

I don't know about anyone else, but The Notebook made me sob like a virgin on prom night.

Really, go watch the opening of Saving Private Ryan, or Platoon. The scene with Sgt. Elias trying to escape the advancing VC is absolutely brutal.

I'm going to see I Am Legend this next weekend. I've heard the story gets ruined at the end, but word has it to be a good view besides.

I've not actually watched Platoon, but Saving Private Ryan nearly gets me every time I watch it.

There's another film that gets me but I've actually forgotten the name of it... I'll edit when I remember xD

Sorry 'bout that - it's fixed now. But if you think that's bad... then did you know that Darth Vader = Luke Skywalker's DAD!?!

(oh yeah, I am sooooo evil...)

The only movie that has ever made me cry was Snoopy Come home I was about 5 when I first saw it. I fell asleep during The Ring 2 in the theater.

Yeah, that part of I Am Legend almost had me crying, just because my family has had 6 dogs at this point (3 labs, 3 westies). That part was really hard to watch, too. Very good acting in it.

Will Smith was a stunna in that movie.

But the Sam scene didn't make me sad. When Will Smith tried to talk to the mannequin and asked her to say "Hello" to him and he was on the verge of tears... Now that was sad. Seriously.

Isn't it kind of weird how so many of us often react more strongly to animals dying in films than we do to people dying?

Didn't read the whole thread, because of the spoilers and such, but I wanted to point out what I think is cool about this movie (before having seen it). They made a bunch of ads for it, and one of them is this one:

Not only is that my own city, Reykjavík, but it's a stones throw from where I live. See the church? I live almost at the end (closer to the camera) of the street that runs parallel to it, on the left side from the photos point of view. So yeah. I think that's cool :p

Nice Derek :D

Anywho, I enjoyed the movie--- typical Will Smith style entertainment. It's not going to be pulling in any oscars, but it was entertaining. Pretty cool concept too. As for Sammy, I knew the poor girl was gonna go as soon as they mentioned that a canine strain existed earlier in the movie, so I was ready for it. Still, very sad the way they did it.

If I had to be real critical of it, I would say that the CG on the creatures wasn't great, and too many of the scares were just OMG SUDDEN LOUD NOISE!"

The main reason I saw it was for the "The Dark Knight" prologue that runs before the Imax release. That's right kids, I've seen the first six minutes of the new batman movie, and it is totally AMAZING.

As for movies that should make you cry, try watching "It's a Wonderful Life", WYU. Anyone who doesn't shed a tear at the end of that movie doesn't have a soul. Beautiful.

Just saw it yesterday. This is definitely one of the best movies I've seen for quite awhile.

Toxic: It's a Wonderful Life? Seriously? I guess I have no soul then. :p

And Sterio: That's awesome!

And PS: I think its possible Will Smith could get some serious recognition for this movie. He basically pulled a Tom Hanks in "Castaway"; acting without other actors for most of the film (I'm sure the creatures were actually actors in those nifty green-suits, but still). I agree on the creatures looking a little weak, at least in regards to how some other movies portray actual people and characters.

Will Smiths performance was definitely one of the big highlights, and the biggest reason (for me) that the movie was good. He portrayed nonexistence of social life very well. (Haha, he has no social life! :p)

If you watch the part when hes driving and he first sees fred and it zooms in in him... watch closely... his head actually moves. I swear to god.

EDIT: Found a gif showing it-

Yeah, I had that same GIF, but much higher resolution (like 5mb) so ImageShack wouldn't host it.

It's not a matter of how good it could've been, it's a matter of how good it is and in my opinion it isn't very good. For future reference, if you want to involve yourself in discussions on a discussion based you have to accept the fact that other people are going to have opinions that aren't always going to be the same as yours. If you take that kind of tone every time someone express' an opinion that may be a little different from your own, you're not going to have much success at fitting in on any forum...

I think you misunderstood his point. Nothing he said indicated to me that he can't accept other people having different opinions. He just seemed to be wondering if maybe you had read the book and thought that the movie just plain didn't measure up to the book.
