I just thought I'd tell you guys: It looks like I'll be having a white christmas, for the first time in ages. Hooray! A few days ago, it snowed a bit, and it's been frost ever since, so the snow hasn't melted. But it wasn't added to either, so it wasn't properly snow anymore, was rather a sort of ice. But when I woke up this morning, everything was white! Ok, it's not a thick layer - not like "back when I was young" - but it's still great! Hooray for white christmases!

I wish I could say the same for us. It's been cold, -7 C, but no snow. :\

Naturally when I think about Iceland I imagine snow up to my bushy eyebrows. What happened, you guys got to many farting sheep roaming the cliffs? :p

Hehe... Well, that is very natural, given the name. However, Iceland is neither as far north as popularly believed, or quite as icy as its name implies. The problem with Icelandic weather is, actually, that it's just so bland. Our summers aren't very warm, and our winters aren't very cold. They're just somewhere there in the middle. Not that we don't get any snow, though, there are always a few white days in November and December, but it mainly snows in January and a bit in February around here. As for the farting sheep - that's quite true (in a way :p): You want to see global warming in action, in other ways than melting tundra etc., come to Iceland. When I was a kid, christmas was quite often white. The question "will we have a white christmas" was actually a relevant one. Now, we hardly ever get them. Also, most skiing areas in Iceland have had to start making snow to stay open, and the pond in downtown Reykjavík hardly ever gets enough ice anymore to be made into a skating area - as it always was only a few years back. Sucks :( :p

(And btw, -7°C would actually be considered very cold in Iceland)

White Chrismas in Toronto, Ontario -4 with 30 km/h winds, with wind chill -9. There is about 10 cm of snow on the ground, 3 cm of fresh added overnight. The rink near my house has had ice for almost a month strait, Hockey is just too sweet.

I've never had a truely white Christmas. We get snow in December from time to time and it will stick for a few days, but its never happened on or before Christmas. (It has happened right before my birthday before though)

Because you're in the middle of the ocean no doubt. Large bodies of water have a moderating effect on temperature. Most of the area known for actually being very cold are well inland, and are also very hot in the summer for the same reason. Living a few hundred miles from the Gulf Stream, we have much the same thing (though weaker), keeping temperatures regularly between 40-90 degrees farenheit.
