View Full Version : RA1 whirlpool in multiplayer?

In my multiplayer lan games for RA1, we've encountered some weird whirlpool multiple times. It goes over land and sea. It simply takes the texture of the surface it's crossing. Whenever one is on the map, your radar jams, and it emits tesla beams when a unit gets near.
Walls are untouched by it, buildings are damaged, and any units are instantly destroyed.
Anybody has any idea what this is supposed to be?

Ah, the Chrono Storm. I only know about it from reading the game files. Supposedly it appears occasionally when you use the Chronosphere, and will randomly move about the map until its consumed about five units.

Derek's right, but it's not because you simply used the Chronosphere, it's because you overused it, so to speak.
I think Einstein warns you about the dangers of overuse of the Chronosphere in the campaign.
...but I don't think he saw this coming.

Ahhh, if only the idea behind that would be legal for modding, it would be EPIC!:D

Actually it's called the Chrono Vortex, and you have a 20% chance it appears every time you use the Chronosphere.

Also, the chances of the anomaly seem to increase upon each use. The only way to counteract it is to avoid using the Chronosphere frequently.

Ah, I remember encountering this a couple of times back when I used to have RA1.
It occurs from frequent use of chrono technology.

I have never encountered the chrono vortex in any of my matches, even with semi frequent use. Lucky me I guess, that or just never noticed.

When I said frequent, it was a bad choice of words, I should have used, substantail use of the chrono devices, including harvesters.
