I haven't seen many political threads here, so I'm assuming there isn't much of an interest. However, http://www6.comcast.net/news/articles/general/2007/12/21/Pakistan/ is something you should all look at. And not just this link, look for any information you can over the next few days.
The short of it: Opposition leader Bhutto was assassinated hours ago. She was entering her vehicle at a political rally when she was shot twice by a man who then detonated a pellet-filled vest.
This is serious. I can't say what's going to happen now, but it's not going to be anything good. Bhutto was our key ally in Pakistan, which happens to be our ally in the Middle East. Suffice to say that its going to hit the fan, and we're all going to feel it.

That the number of political threads I've seen in those months is very low. Now stop asking silly questions.

Interestingly enough, everybody involved is pointing fingers at each other; hell, Al-Qaeda just said that it was the US that assasinated Bhutto so as to help keep Musharaff in power (and embarassingly enough, there are people out there that actually believe that crap!:dead:)

Wouldn't be the first time, now would it?* Can you find a link that talks about AQIs reaction?
*edit: Not to a person who we're working closely with, of course. I just find it weird that AQI would claim innocence.

Oh, they've done it before. For instance, Bin Laden himself refused to admit that he was responsible for the 9/11 attacks for the first few months after the incident until the political firestorm started settling down. It was only until a couple of years ago that he finally made an open confession to the attacks. Furthermore, al-Qaeda itself actually tried convincing some of the peeps in the middle east that they were totally innocent of any "true" muslim blood spilled during 2003(though that didn't fly too well, even within their group upon realizing how retarded a person must be to believe that statement).
So basically yeah, they'll lie if the situation calls for it... that, or blame the West, as they always do.:|

What has happened to my country. Personally, I think it was Musharaaf that did the killing, right now the government is saying that she hit her head on a panel and thats how she died, but there were shots fired and there were hundreds of witnesses to vouch for that, not to mention the bomb blast that also killed 20 other people.
Its times like these that remind me of how lucky I am to have moved to Canada.
I just hope that everything goes alright.

President Pervez Musharraf said last week he was "not fully satisfied" with the investigation into the killing by the Pakistani police and had requested to the British prime minister to send Scotland Yard detectives. Bhutto's People's Party (PPP) has called for a wider inquiry by the United Nations. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said on Monday that Pakistan had not approached the UN for Bhutto's murder probe
The team from Scotland Yard has visited the scene of Ms Bhutto's murder and also recorded statements of an injured police officer on duty as well as injured party activists. They have also examined the bullet-proof car of Bhutto and body parts of the suicide bomber.

Musharref also said Bhutto's death was her own fault... So now he's not just a power-hungry evil ruler, he's an asshole too.
