I noticed in several posts on the forums that there is mention of certain units "spam" in the game. I have not heard this before, and would like someone to explain it please.
Also in CNC3 main menu page there is a spot which says "custom maps", but as of yet I have found no use, or path to it. Can anyone help with that?

I'm not sure I understand the question about the spam. Is it the word spam that you need explained, or the phenomenon of units spamming? (I don't understand that myself, but spam is generally unsolicited mail, or something felt to be of a similar level of crappyness)

For custom maps, you can for example go here: CnCDen (http://www.cncden.com/) and select one of the categories under "DEN Staff Maps" or "Fan Maps" under the section "C&C3 Files" in the menu to the left.

:\I gues what I don't understand is the units spamming, does not make sense to me.I'm not sure I understand the question about the spam. :redface:I did not explain the custom maps enough aparently. I am talking abouth the CNC3 game, main menu screen. When you click on skirmish it opens up a submenu of the following; New skirmish, load, and "custom maps" I have not yet found a path or any other mention of this area, to take advantage of it...

Well, I looked it up on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_(gaming_term)#Unit_spamming), and there it's explained as building loads and loads of very cheap units to use either as an incredibly large invasion force or an impenitrable defence shield, in both cases simply because of the sheer number of units.

;) Well that does some sense, I suppose, thanks.

Spam in C&C generally means to focus on one unit or structure and make as many of it as your economy permits, stopping only when the situation changes and you'd be better off spamming something else or making a mix of units. Tunnel spam is building as many tunnels as possible, rockvee spam is making as many humvees with MDs in them as possible, Kirov spam, you get the idea.

The difference between spamming and massing is that massed units are built to be used in a massive group together, like a swarm. But in such a case, the two terms can be used interchangeably.

The game defines a "Custom Map" as a map with objectives, kind of like one of the missions from the single player campaign. I think Rolk posted one before but I not sure.

Another big difference is that masses tend to have some different units mixed in, whereas spam armies usually tend to be composed of a single unit, such a Scorpion tanks or Venom gunships.

Not really... spamming as a term only goes as far as production of a unit. Use of the unit can be en masse, combined with other units, small groups, one at a time, or anything.
