Knowing how many rednecks there are around here, I'd probably get shot trying something like this.

That would actually be illegal in Pennsylvania. Two, possibly three years ago they passed a law saying you could only be in the passing lane if you're either passing someone or making a turn. Otherwise a cop can ticket you.

Would be illegal in Maine as well, left lane for passing only, goes like that in many states. Not to mention what they did was just as dangerous- and not just to them- as driving too fast. They're douchebags.

If following the law is dangerous, then the law should be changed. If their state does not have a law saying left lane for passing only, then they did nothing wrong.
Now if their state does have a law stating left lane passing only, then yes they are douchebags.

That was their point. They were driving exactly at the speed limit (55 mph).

You know the only reason that law exists is for troopers to zip wherever they want in the left lane. Set cruise to 90 and head for the donut shop
EDIT: I'd also like to add I travel in the left lane as much as possible :p

well as far as i can tell, the speed limit is the speed of traffic (on the freeway at least). But most of the time the speed of traffic does not go over 75 mph.
P.S. The movie was cut short on me and will not play past the 1 minute mark.

I'd back that up. I've had a cop pass me while I was doing 70 in a 55 zone. And by pass, I mean blow by me. No lights, no siren.
That still kicks ass, though... also, Thanks ItalianPenguin, I didn't know that. Kinda should too, as I go to college in western PA :p

You do that here and you're likely to get bushwhacked by some grinning cop hiding in the tall grass with his camera and strobe flasher.

Yes, I know. I was just saying I disagree with KO.

Holy crap, I remember that ****. It was on the news here in Atlanta about these assholes that backed up 285. i guess it does prove that 55 mph is a bit ridiculous tho.

Which left lane? It's a 4-lane highway. Only the far-lefthand lane? Or is that the carpool lane? Does each lane represent an increasing speed as we go left, with the slowest traffic on the far-right?
See, poorly defined laws suck.

Of course you only have to worry about 2 lanes, sometimes one lane here so that isn't really a problem for you and I A&O.:p

Ah, good old Cal U. Sucks you guys are in the middle of nowhere though. I'm at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

It's actually an eight-lane highway, four on each side. Usually in these situations the lane laws are defined by the state. The law might state something such as right lane slow and exiting traffic, the two middle lanes for passing, and the fourth lane for passing and left turning traffic. I'll make a note of it now, because I'm sure someone will call me out on it, but there are highways with left lane exits.

My cousin currently goes there for Mechanical Engineering. Expensive as hell. He's going to be set for life once he gets out though.
I went to Pitt main for a year, decided to come back though. Lots of fun, but the things I accomplished I would of never been able to at main campus(not grade wise, activity wise).

Explain the Autobahn then.Ah, good old Cal U. Sucks you guys are in the middle of nowhere though. I'm at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
Yeah, I have a car now (It's fixed, thankfully) so distance isn't too big of a problem for me anymore... besides, we have a WalMart Super Center within 12 miles :p

Explain the Autobahn then.
The roads are much better, the rules are much stricter, and the drivers aren't as stupid.

Yes, but there's no speed limit, and the autobahn (I am talking about the German one) is proven as safe if not safer than other roads, thus blowing his theory out of the water.
Derek
01-16-2008, 04:33 PM
Yes, I know, and I just told you why. You can't just drive arbitrarily fast on any road, the Autobahn is made for it, US Interstates are not.
ItalianPenguin
01-16-2008, 10:05 PM
Most interstates, if not all, are rated for speeds higher than 55 mph.
However, like Derek said, most people are too stupid in the US to drive at high speeds anyways. That's why the speed limit in Washington(the state) should be 35 mph on all roads. :p

Remind me to never drive to Washington then :p
On my way up here, I've hit 85 MPH. I haven't pushed it to 88 yet though... mainly because I drive a Chrystler Sebring and not a ****ing DeLorian.

I-70 runs about 75-80mph (Limit=70 in WV) from end to end, pretty much, but it slows down in the cities to about 60mph (Limit=35-45).
