I was almost to the bursting point by the time they got me under the knife. Great job thinking I had a hernia medical staff of the navy. Anyways, hurtin pretty bad right now. Was wonderin who else here has had their appendix removed and if you could give me any pointers to have a speedy recovery and get back on my feet to better serve the corps?

Sorry bro, have never had an appendix removed. However I wish you have a quick and simply recovery. I would check to see what WebMD says, but I'm lazy. :p

Wow, that's way different then when I had it done in High school. I have a scar about 3 1/2" long. Did they use thread or staples to close? Mine was staples.
Get well soon!

Welcome to the club.

I was 12 years old, my blood work always came back fine. The doctors and surgeons said that there was nothing wrong with me. They sent me to see psychologists thinking I wanted attention or that my parents beat me. Neither was the case. I could not play things like hockey and basketball for my side hurt so much.

Then a year and a half of pain later; one Sunday night lying on the couch with my mom watching the The Lion the witch and the wardrobe cartoon my appendix blew up. I was so yellow by the time my parents took me to the hospital and the pain was intense.

After the operation I had a tube in my side to drain the poison from my body, they took this out a week later. However this was too soon. About 2 weeks after the initial surgery my staples all broke open and poison flowed from the wound (the smell was awful). I was again rushed to the hospital for another operation. After that operation the doctor said if id did not break, the poison would have killed me in the night.

Now in retrospect many years later heres what I remember.

I have a 3.5 inch scar like Scoot, & a hole the size of a dime where the tube was.

They got me up walking 2 hours after the operation so I didn't get blood clots & the walking was very slow and painful.

My mom put coco butter on the wound and that made it not so itchy.

We went to Disney World that summer and I think the restaurant was called Shoney's, anyway the Shoney's sauce on the burger was the same color and texture of the poison that came out of me.

I dealt all the kids at the park playing hockey who called me a sissy for not playing during those years black eyes. Although I dont like violence at the age of 13 I didnt like being called a sissy, for I certainly am not.

Thats how I remember it, in the future of our evolution this will no longer be a problem.

Best of luck in your recovery, may the force be with you.
