I would say that SpyGal, who I remember going against years ago and whom I have never beaten, despite playing several times and in multiple scenarios, and whom in even many more games have never seen beaten. I think she is the best tactical player I have ever seen. The way she plays is so unorthodox too, as it causes those unfamiliar with her style to consider her a n00b at first, but over time they begin to see their errors in underestimating her. I find it difficult to describe what she did, but I think I got better by playing her.
Basically, it seemed that she was a master at using maneuvering and evasion and preparing the ground to prevent a superior force from destroying her force. I recall playing her, moving in with tanks thinking I have her, but for some reason my tanks never seem to engage with her tanks like I would like them too. It's like there's the opportunity, but I can never seem to catch it. When I finally engage with her tanks like the way I think I want to, I find that my position is compromised and I lose the battle.
I have observed other players, even those whom I would consider difficult to beat, have the same issues. Where they would go in against her with a large number of tanks and her numbers are superior in an open field and they just never seem to be able to engage her tanks the way that would be good for them and they keep pushing it. After a while, they finally are able to engage her tanks, but they lose the battle, or if they win the battle it'd be a Pyrrhic victory and they would have very few of their tanks left that they'd be able to do very little with.
I wonder if anyone else has ever seen players like this. I'm also specially interested in discussions surrounding RA2 not YR.
