What makes a good infantry map?
I like the idea of an infantry only map, but very seldom do I see anyone who's managed to pull it off well. In fact, I have yet to see someone pull it off. So I set forth on creating what I perceive as the perfect infantry map. Here are some prerequisites I began with before starting:
Infantry maps shouldn't have supply sources. Infantry are cheap enough, and spamming cheap infantry lags the game to hell, and doesn't promote strategy making.
Infantry maps should be detailed! I'm sick of boring maps with a vertical cliff down the middle and a ramp up both sides. There should be details, brilliant texturing, buildings, and lots of trees. If your computer lags, you probably shouldn't be playing. With no resources, and only infantry to play with, there better be lots to look at.
Infantry maps need to be rebalanced. USA always Bogarts infantry games with their damn snipers, and supply choppers.
There should ONLY be INFANTRY. People like to weasel in supply choppers. Lame...Building the map...
Like all good maps... Cough... We'll do four players. There are some special qualities about this map:
It is highly detailed. There are lots of sounds placed throughout, lots of texturing, lots of trees, and special effects. Plenty to look at and marvel about.
The next interesting quality is that it looks big, but really isn't. The idea is to dwarf the infantry next to other objects.
There is very limited build space. This is to keep people from spamming units and buildings when money no longer becomes an issue.
I do have a question. Now, because I think this would be an interesting addition to the map, I have placed civilian vehicles around the map. Unfortunately, when I make them unmanned, they explode when the game starts. I would like it if they were able to be captured, and then loaded up with units (3 or so). But I am unsure of how to do this. Can anyone help me out?
Balancing the map...
Here's where most of my questions are, but first of all: I've gone ahead and removed base defenses. There are towers already placed around the map, and once those are gone, that's it. The only structures available to build are ones that do not produce units or have weapons, and the barracks. Now, balancing questions:
The first thing to do is to increase the cost of the Pathfinder. I'm not sure how to do this yet, but if anyone can help me out, let me know. I believe I'd have to do this through ini.
For the pathfinder, I would also like to remove his stealth ability and his ability to see stealth units. Not sure how to do this either. (Probably via ini)
I would also like to increase the amount of money that is given through the GLA Black Market. Because of the limited build space, there's not enough room to build multiple markets. So there should be an increase in the money awarded by them. does anyone know how I would do this?
Being that the sniper is the US's greatest asset, I think Flash bangs should be disabled. They are simply too powerful. Is there any way I can remove, or grey out, the upgrade in the barracks?
