View Full Version : Whoa, I didn't know about the Mothership's "chain reaction"

I didn't know the Mothership blast would cause a chain reaction if you have buildings close to each other... untill I raped my own base today
So anyways, I usually play ZOCOM in Skirmish but sometimes I like Reaper as well. I was playing with Reaper on Frontier Fracas against a Marked of Kane and since I was almost done finishing him off, I decided, just for the fun of it, to summon the Mothership to destroy the AI's secondary Tiberium Refinery that was just below my line of defense of my main base. So I see the pretty light show the the M-Ship charging and KABOOM... there goes my entire base  There was nothing left... absolutely nothing. I still had a secondary "harvesting" base with a bunch of Reaper Tripods to still win the game but I was like WTF!

When I googled this, I found out about the chain reaction thing. Man, I felt like an idiot.

Now that I'm talking about Reaper anyways, is there a way to counter enemy Superweapons with him? When playing GDI, I can always find a backway into the base to quickly sneak in and bomb the SW with Firehawks (or Vertigos in the very rare cases I play Nod)... with another Scrin faction I can use Devastators... but reaper has no aircraft. Does anyone have suggestions besides letting the AI use his SW on me?

Yeah, its essentially the comeback unit. If you ever watch the Battlecast 5 its like every other game ends with a MS  (this isn't because of any problem in the game mind you, its just a common trait in very close and exciting games).

A few weeks ago I was playing a 3v3 with Ownage, Avapod, and some others and Ownage tried to MS my allies. The game luckily chose this moment to freeze for about a minute, giving everyone plenty of time to prepare. I built a shredder turret from my allies base (off his MCV) towards Ownage's base (the bases were close on this map) and it managed to chain off the turret to a lightning spike Ownage had placed, to his base. So I effectively took out Ownage with his own MS. It was beautiful (we still lost the game though).

Yes that was a great game twist. Dereks turret chain reaction my way had me left with the capability to build infantry only. That was one of the last fun games I played.

Thanks again for the 0% support EALA.

Even I would expect more problems with unranked spam fest maps like that...

Yeah, but you lost with dignity! :) Reminds me when in ZH I Scud Stormed my own base when my allies had already surrendered and my opponent had his army raping my CC. I was done for anyways so I blew myself up with a volley of Scud missiles and took the guy's army with me. He said I was a noob and he was angry because he had a high death rate :D

I remember someone on one of the Battlecast Primetime matches had shot his own unit and had his mastermind teleport the thing into the base past the AA. It exploded and chain reaction carried it on. It was interesting.

I remember the last game i played with my friend, it was almost the end of the game... He had his drone ship, a rift generator, and just enough power to keep it running after the last assault i landed on his base. His rift generator was almost ready, and i was panicking a little because i had a fairly small base (it was a very close match). So i made a Mothership and started sending it to his base. I was about 10 seconds away from his base when his rift was ready, and it seems that he was getting desperate too, because he used his rift of my mothership instead of my base:lol:. I had a full base and he was left with a drone platform, no money, and an out of power rift generator(the powerplant was nearest my MS, so it died too.)
