I prefer simple good old GDI =)

the easiest way to defend against rushers is to build enough machine gun turrets as the easiest troops to get in any game when you start is infantry. Have rocket men, machine gunners (ignore grenadiers) and try get some snipes to snoop around =D

I wrote a big battle plan for the last mission of GDI campaign on another thread on this forum (it's near the top somewhere) s

You can just follow that plan! =)

Hope it helps mate

For me, this may be costly, but you can invest in heavy economy and heavy base defenses in a tactic called "Turtling". I know, to the advanced players thsi seems "noobish" but I use it to great effect in a map 1 vs 2 against 2 allied Hard foes who have rusher and steamroller personalities. I paly as Scrin because the stormcolumns are deadly agaisnt everything. Expand your economy to multipel tiberium fields and protect the refineries with heavy defenses. I paly as Scrin because my untis won't get damaged when going thorugh tib. fields. Also, you can use ravagers to damage the enemy economy with their tib. agitation ability, allowing you total domination.

It's all down to personal preference.

Without question the best thing you can do at this stage is to watch lots of pro-player replays:

if u wanna use subfactions, try steel talons, easiest faction to use as a starter, and very deadly once u get better at it. afterall, ur titans can stomp enemy tanks so makes countering scorpion/predator/seeker rushs alot easier. and in late game, once u have like 20 mammoth tanks up wiht like 40 titans supporting, both upgraded with railguns and adaptive armor, there realy isnt anything the opponent can do to stop u short of 20 PACs

or try out reaper 17, just spam vehicles, in early game there realy isnt anything that can stop loads of seekers and disintegrators....

turtling is only noob if u fail, if u win its just pwnage =]
too bad it rarely wins online cuz unless u can build enough towers to defend ur base as well as ur tib field in the first 2 minutes, u will lose ur harvester or refinery to an attack bike/pitbull/seeker rush.
most effective strategies are usualy either rush or tech boom. tech booming requires very good scouting though, cuz u rly dont wanna try doing this against a scrin rusher lol!

Is there like...a tier list of all the factions like most fighting games have? I figure ittd probably be hard to make one since the game is updated for ballance and things change aftering teching up but is there? :chin:

the tiers im going by are the ones in global conquest mode, ie teir 1 has just the barracks, and weapons factory, tier 2 has a command center, armory and airfield, teir 3 has tech centre and space comlink. or watever the equivalent structures are in the other factions
im also rating them by the way i play, which is just rush -> basic unit spammage -> epic unit + infantry push -> heavy + basic armor + air units.
usualy i dont even get to the epic unit + infantry push stage cuz i've either won or lost already. and im a nod player, more specifically black hand, so this may be a bit biased :P

at tier 1, im gonna have to go with black hand cuz of the insanely powerful infantry, the attack bikes which are great for rushing with (fast and high dmg, but low health) and the scorpion tanks cuz they are cheaper than predators and titans but can crush infantry + aint too bad against enemy armor.

at teir 2, i'd prolly still prefer black hand cuz i love to spam scorpions and with dozer blades on, they last much longer =] 2 or 3 flame tanks help for seting up a distraction attack from the back of their base cuz they do enough dmg to make the enemy send units to go deal with it. and send the usual infantry masses along too just to piss off the enemy cuz confessors + rockets pack as much of a punch as tanks.

at tier 3, i think zocom or steel talon is prolly strongest cuz zocom has zone raiders + hammerheads, retardedly powerful orcas, and they still have mammoth tanks to pull hostile attention away from the rest of your attacking force. steel talon, well it has titans with rail guns, nuff said, if enemy sends tanks, turn on adaptive and walk over them, if enemy sends heavier armored tanks eg mammoth tanks or walkers, well 2 upgraded titans > 1 mammoth tank and it costs about the same, as for walkers, well u still have ur superpowerful behemoth juggernauts to pound teh crap out of them long before they get in range. shame u dont get snipers so ur behemoths cant bombard, but hey, they cant make it too easy =]

some people would prolly say go for reaper at teir 3 for the walkers but i rly hate anything that leaves husks cuz if ur playing against a pro, they may end up turning them against you, whihc realy wont be cool. traveller has good carriers but i've nvr rly been a fan of air superiority since 2 or 3 sling shot/mantis will turn even the best air fleets into scrap.

lol, thats not at all what he meant by tier list :p

However, you're right that "tier" in RTS usually refers to your level of tech. To answer Jester's question however, yes, there are different levels of factions, however I don't know the current status of the KW metagame.

I like playing Scrin. My two co-players and I usually match-up against 3-4 Brutal AIs. Most of the time we win the first time out. Sometimes, it takes a few tries and tactics adjustments. They are both GDI. Every faction has strengths and weaknesses. Once you find out whichever faction you play, you need to compensate for those and play that way. Scrin has horrible tier 1 and 2 ground forces. They can hold off a first wave rush, but after about 5 minutes into the game, they get run over. So, you need to be able to compensate with that with some air power. No matter which faction you play, you need to know how to counter what's coming and know what you have in your arsenal and how to use it.

as if scrin has bad low tech ground forces for versing AI
make use of ai stupidity and u can win with just about anything, which is realy easy for scrin cuz they got cheap spammable units
as for gdi, the ai rarely reverse attack when u send titans their way so just stomp all over them with titans/juggernauts
as for nod, well stealth attacks dont work too well against ai cuz they can kinda anticipate it.....so just go with pure brute force, 1000 scorps takes care of just about anything =]
