View Full Version : Question to those who already played the game

My mani concern for RA3 was the Empire. I'm afraid that their units are just too futuristic... that King Oni mech for example just looks like a robot who lost his way between two galaxies in a star war. So my question is: does the Empire give to th game a too futuristic feeling, or is it still good old missiles, shells and bombs battle? Lasers and energy weapons belong more in the Tiberium series IMO...

The empire uses lasers and plasma weapons in conjunction with their guns and rockets. They also have light sabers, or damn near the equivelence.

Pfffft. Well whenever I play skirmishes, it won't be against the Empire... Are there a lot of the Soviet SP missions against the Empire?

Cause you know, Tesla and Prism tech totally isn't just lasers by another name

You have a point there, but those were the only laser-based weapons in the game (except the Yuri Magnetron and the Floating Disk, but I didn't really like YR so much). I don't mind for a few lasers or electric bolt weapons, they add to RA's creativity, but I just don't want them to be as common as in lets say Tiberium Wars were most of the Nod weaponry and Scrin weaponry are laser or plasma based.

Derek, I hope like hell you did not just make a link between tesla technology and lasers. Because the only similar aspects the two share are high intensity heat and tremendous speed.
Tesla's technology was based in no way off of lasers, and is completely unrelated to lasers.

but the ingame effect of a tesla shot is the same as a laser
if fact it has almost exactly the same effect as a obelisk of light now as you can use lasers to charge obelisks and tesla troopers to charge tesla towers

A laser is a very intense beam of light
A tesla coil is a lightning bolt.
They are the same? Then so is a slingshot throwing stones and a stone walking up to someone to kick them in the shin

Okay an electric bolt is not the same as a laser but what Derek probably meant, is that they're both more or less futuristic, energy based, non conventional and he said that as a reply to my initial question which was about how futuristic the game was.

I would assume so, because a bolt of lightining is not a laser and vise versa.
I don't know how anyone could say they are the same thing.
And tesla coils as use for a military weapon was just about possible untill funding issues, and the death of Tesla took the secrets of the trade to his grave.
Or the GRU.

Lazzars got it. If it looks like a duck, zaps like a duck, and kills like a duck. Its a duck.

The game has alot of pretty weapons effects, but not too much really off the wall technologies, like Yuri's technologies in YR. Sure, there are lasers and beam swords, but effectively it is the same thing as a shell or a regular sword (Figuratively!). A laser may still be a laser, but it delivers the same 'warhead' (I use that term loosely here) as a rocket or shell in the game.

An error, regardless it's now fixed.

I don't know if you're trying to get a rise out of me, or if you actually think like that.
A laser is a concentrated beam of light focused into a particle stream.
Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.
Tesla's technology was based off of electric discharge. The directed focus of electrons in free air.
They have a similar kill type in the Command and Conquer franchise, but that is a pitiful reason to make an assumption or link with.
And contrary to popular belief, lasers don't "zap", it is a build up of energy that slowly burns through the target. The most powerful laser today takes roughly thirty seconds to build up to full power, and will slowly melt through the casing of a missile in roughly a minute. It's not an instant zap and explode, things like that don't exist, and likely won't for some time.
If anything, laser technology in the CnC series is a blur between lasers and particle beams.

He knows what the difference is, but they work the same way in the game

I'm sorry, are we playing CNC or RL? Because RL is a boring game (graphics are pretty good though).
Lasers and Tesla Coils do the exact same thing in CNC games. For that matter, tank shells do too. Its a matter of graphical implementation and saying that you won't buy a game because it has laser in it when its had the exact same thing for years is stupid.

Tank Shells are not the same as Laser weapons in Command & Conquer. First off, lasers/lightening are much better than AP ammunition against non-armored targets. Also important, tank shells take time to travel through the air and sometimes miss. Lasers travel at lightspeed so in the scale of the game they are instant and score a hit at the same time they fire.

In CnC yes, not in real life, and you had not stated what you were talking about. And I have no problem with that in the game, it's just game after all, you can't expect 100% truth and reality in it. I've already pre ordered the Premier edition. (I had pre ordred standard way back in Feburary, not knowing you could do that, happen to have a friend at the game stop who told me, but then when they announced the Premier edition, i switched my pre order to that.)
I was terribly concerned that you may have though in real life that a tesla coil was the same a laser weapon.
I'm a detail whore, so sue me.

True about the AP, but tank shells haven't missed (except against infantry) since RA2.

tank shells actually didn't "miss" against infantry even in RA2, though ironically they could easily miss against a tank if it was moving at a medium or faster speed, and to my annoyance missiles could very easily miss as well.
In CnC yes, not in real life, and you had not stated what you were talking about.
It may not have been directly stated before, but it was very, very obviously implied.

Then why are we even having this conversation?
I was terribly concerned that you may have though in real life that a tesla coil was the same a laser weapon.
Again, you don't have to be concerned about our IRL conception of the two things. We all know that they are very different indeed, but what we are trying to explain is that in essence, the ingame effect is similar between both weapons.
Also important, tank shells take time to travel through the air and sometimes miss. Lasers travel at lightspeed so in the scale of the game they are instant and score a hit at the same time they fire.
While this is true, I would like to point out that in RA3, almost all projectile weapons (tank shots, flak shells, etc.) hit thier target instantly, with the exception of missiles, which will home in on thier targets and hit them anyways. So in RA3, there is no missing of any shots, completely removing the factor of "zOMG you are so lucky that tank shell hit that guy!!!1!"
Because RL is a boring game (graphics are pretty good though).
RL has the best graphics in the industry, you know it. :p

Nah it's not that bad. it's just that it wasn't my intention to start a thread where it's real life VS game lasers :)

all you need to know about this game is that they got human shaped giant mechs that shoot lasers out of thier eyes, and you can shoot attack bears with suits of armor out of cannons and watch them parachute down.
this game is not for me sir.

I will only buy this game when it hits the 20 dollar mark...no going to be worth the 50 to 60 bux they want at release.
I was unimpressed at the beta even after the latest patch..it did not live up to the hype it was given.
For the time being I have Zero Hour Modz to play with like Cold War Crisis
Shockwave .0951/Contra 006
and eagerly awaiting MidEast Crisis 2 and Renegade X
