View Full Version : Lion's Daily Blurb - Mon., Tues., Oct. 6-7
Our first frost for the fall-winter season is due on Tuesday in my neck of da woods. For me that means the grass should stop growing (or at least stunt it's growth), and I can finally put away my lawnmower. I love the month of October when the leaves turn color. Just wish they'd stay on the trees. I usually end up raking not only my leaves, but my neighbor's leaves as well. Darn wind always blows towards my yard. I also have two LARGE walnut trees that deposit hundreds of walnuts in the yard as well. Walking through them is like walking in an obstacle course. I tried chopping em up with the lawnmower over the weekend. HEY...it worked! Now I have thousands of pieces of walnuts in various sizes to rake up. :dizzy:

Yeah raking can be a pain in the neck. Of course you can be lazy and follow nature's course and just leave them on the ground.

That is so cool. I wish we had that kind of weather here. We did have a little bit of drizzle over the weekend, but unfortunately for us in SoCal, October means the beginning of the Santa Ana wind season. Which means our temps could soar to a hundred degrees with 35-40 mph winds. That brings out all the knuckleheads who like to start fires. So the last 2 falls have not been very pretty. (to much smoke)
Have fun with the walnuts, maybe you can grind them up, put some Velveeta cheese on them and feed them to the cats.

Why not eat the walnuts? They are really nice!
edit: actually I guess cats don't eat nuts... XD

Do you really need to rake what's left over when a lawnmower chops up the walnuts? Wouldn't it just sink down into the grass with the rest of the soil?

I suppose it would sink into the grass. The lawnmower basically chopped off the hull of the walnuts. It's a rather big mess right now.
