View Full Version : How to detect MH cheats?
I played someone yesterday who I suspected was MH.
I often get MH accussations at me even though I do not cheat(honest!)
Can someone give me a guide to determine 100% wether someone is MH or not.
Thanks

There is no 100% way to know if he is MHing. However, the best way is to just watch the replay "through his eyes" and see how he behaves.

MH = Maphack. It is basically a hack that reveals all the shroud for the player that uses it. Reasons for use are obvious.

You can't watch through the eyes in ZH. You just have to watch for suspicious behavior. Locking on to units under the fog is pretty much the only dead give away (and some units will lock on under fog if set to guard, so even that doesn't always work). But if you see him always moving to defend attacks on flanks that he shouldn't see, or moving to counter stealth units, its a probable maphack.

well. that won't always work. i remember being accused of map hack, when i moved a hummvie to kill the dozers that he sent to flank from his base. he said there is no way i saw his dozer. but i told him i saw the track on the ground and know which direction it went.

Is there not a tool which records the framemovement and such ?

Well thats not locking on under fog (the units that will lock on under fog naturally are MiGs and terrorists on guard mode, I think), but yes, little things like that are important to skill, yet also lead to MH accusation. Another classic example is seeing a dent in the ground under the fog when a tunnel has been placed on a hill.
This all makes sense, but the most suspicious units are gatts, quads and tanks, when they have their respective turret locked into a target they can't really see. And this is ordered by the player. Things like having a gatt in the middle lock on a moving target on the flank with nothing seeing it, are the most obvious.
Guard mode locking is hardly the a clue since only units with a guard range bigger than their LOS will attack under fog (scud, tomahawk). Terrorists don't cause doubt since they have little guard and wide LOS (like all infantry). If you see a terror running toward something out of sight, then you have your proof. Just remember terrors have decent LOS. A lot bigger than most vehicles.
Aircraft, in other hand, may do it. But usually MHers tend to make some suspicious moves here and there.
Anyway, their PC could just burn as soon as they use any cheat... bast***s.

This is correct, its the primary guaranteed way to catch a MH.

You don't understand. Some units, including MiGs and terrorists, will lock on to targets under the fog. This has nothing to do with LoS. You give them a guard command under the fog and normally a unit will move towards it, then if it sees an enemy in that area it will lock on and attack. These units however will immediately lock on to a unit in the guard territory even if its all the way across the map and they have no way to see it.

That will just turn MH diagnosis even more difficult. Not that anyone will put terrorists on guard, but...
