View Full Version : Lion's Weekend Blurb - Sat., Sun., Nov. 15-16
On Friday two little balls of gray fur visited my front porch. Mammy, one of my outside cats that has been a kitten factory for the past eight years or so, brought her latest batch of kittens to show off to me. Normally she has at least four in a litter, but there were only two this time around. I dunno...maybe age is catching up with her. I estimate she's had a least 20 litters of kittens over the years, and that's just the time that I've known her. Of the nearly 100 kittens she's produced, I've found homes for about half, and the rest were either killed on the road, or wild animals got them. The one lone survivor has always been Mammy, which I named after the Mammoth Tank because she's one tuff cat. I feed her and talk to her every day. In all the years I've known her, she will NOT let me pick her up. I can touch the end of her nose, but that's the extent of my contact with her. For her to have survived these many years outside with all the dangers she faces, she is no doubt VERY street smart. So I have homes to find for two more kitties, and hopefully someone will want them. In the meantime, I'll take care of them.
Awww! I wish I could get a nw cat, but my dad would kill me...
The three cats we have now aren't ideal to what I want. One hates being inside, one had a bad aptitude, and the last one just wont shut up.
I had a black cat named Sabrina that would sleep in my arm every night and always meowed 'hi' when I entered the room.
But she died of FIV and something else which she caught from getting into a fight with a ferrel cat. :(

She won't let him touch her, she sounds pretty feral. I'd say let her do what's natural. If the kittens die, well that is the way of the wild. Of course if there is demand from good homes then that is a nicer ending :)

you can easily trap a cat that comes to you for food once in a while.

Mammy actually comes for food every morning and evening like clockwork. As far as catching her, like I said, she's VERY street smart. I have tried catching her with a trap called a 'Have-a-heart'. It's worked on other cats, but not her. She just won't go inside no matter what food I bait it with. I stood on the porch with a large fishing net one day. She wouldn't come on the porch until I put it away. I've tried other means as well. She seems to sense when something is not right...so I gave up.
PS: I've set that have-a-heart trap at several locations where I live, and have caught numerous cats, squirells, possums, and skunks. It works great on everything but Mammy. I might note it's REAL challenging to release a skunk from the trap, let me tell ya. :freek:

Hehehe, I don't know of any cat that isn't scared of the cat basket. Mine can definatly work out what is going on when they see things like that.

Same here with my cats. Anytime we have to take one or more to the vet or something like that, we get ready to put them in the cat basket and they no it before we even grab them. I tell ya it's hard to get them sometimes.

I used to have cats, then i bought an American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, he got along with them for about the 1st year, they kept him in line for sure when he was young, the Tomcat was a mean cat, he was like yours to an extent, noone could pick him up or anything beyond touching his face and that was only for about 10 seconds, then he'd walk away or hiss and swat if ya tried anything else.
Wife went off to work, i went to the Base to workout, i come back, not too sure what happened or who started what or wtf went on, but there wasnt enough left of either of those cats to piece together what was what.
That was the end of the cat deal, it was sad, i liked em, i think they bit off a little more than they could chew on that one.
Im more of a Dog guy. You have to laugh at me, big soldier boy gets all teary eyed watching the Dog Whisperer, but IED's, RPG's and blood dont bother me at all, dont even pay any nevermind to it.
Ceasar is quite an extraordinary dude, I dont have a clue about how he does it or what kind of thing he's got going on with Dogs, but the man's got balls of steel for a little guy. Some of them Dogs, like the breed i have, they would make me a little unnerved dealing with the pissed off anti-social ones. Goin after an extremely pissed off and agitated and scared Rotty, Bull Terrier, Rhodesian Ridgebacks{ check those dogs out, very cool looking} and other large breeds. Hes got some big cajones man.
Lion is the Cat Whisperer in my books, i dont know anyone personally who has as many cats as you do or anyone that knows that much about cats.
