Hi, my name is Dylan, a hardcore RA,RA2+YR player for years. I just bought Red Alert 3, played it for some hours and in my opinion it sucks ass. Ninja's? Robots? Lollorzz!!11

R.I.P one of the greatest games ever, thanks alot EA Games.
What do you guys think about RA3?

Edit: I throwed C&C Generals out my windows too, I just liked the realistic story etc. from Red Alert 2, and Red Alert 3 is full of bull**** like robot's and ninja's, I started the campaign and think the story is lame, only the women are hot. I don't like the camera which cannot zoom out, the maps are ugly, the unrealistic things just ruin everything, in my opinion it sucks ass and tomorrow I'm bringing it back to the store.

I think it's awesome! I won't say I will enjoy it more than RA2, but that's only because I haven't played it like RA2 yet..

only the women are hot.
a few... Part of the goofyness btw.. RA3 is set up as a fun game in all ways. hot women are part of fun..

I haven't even played it. Don't plan on it. Not big on RTS games anymore, I grew more into FPS as time went on. I am waiting SC2 though, that's gonna be amazing.

Only thing I don't like about Red Alert 3 is that I can't run it on my PC. But that's me and my PC's problem.
I think you only dislike it because you had the wrong expectations for it. If you were expecting Red Alert 2.1, then of course you'd be disappointed. They just wanted to offer something new to the fans, and I think they did that.
But in my own opinion, these Ninja's and Robots seem perfectly acceptable in a Red Alert game. Imagine how the fans of Red Alert must of felt after Red Alert 2 came out?
Also, whats with thinking Red Alert 2 more realistic than Generals? I want to see your reasoning on that.

Also, a little hint for being on this forum. Work on your grammar. They used to give me hell about that...

I will give my opinion as soon as I've played it, which will be on a friday-night LAN-party.

On the "I-don't-like-EA-C&C-games" rant, I can only say this: try one of the different mods, you'll be surprised how much fun playing ZeroHour:Shockwave can be.
In fact, you have to look at EA-games this way. The first version is the actual demo, where they let you see how the system works. The expansion gives you the framework so the modding-comunity can do his work and can create a final version of the game.

I say don't be so critical about the game's creativeness (ack.... generals), but more of the game play.... if you like creativeness go read a good book (and go to those kinds of forums)

All in all. It's the biggest failure in C&C history besides C&C 95 on the N64.

Not even the actors can save this boat. I'm happy i didn't spend my coin on this game. Was worth the download to show EA "I'm not buying this crap".

Hope the next C&C is worth buying and has something called Strategy! That to much to ask? Apparently EA has tanked every game they made this year.

Need for Speed Undercover? TANKED
Mirrors Edge? Decent but not great
NFL Games? Fail...
NBA Live? Fail.....
RA3? Fail....

Only thing that might save RA3 is the multilayer, if its decent. Not gonna worry about it now however. It's gone for me...

Strategy. Secondary unit abilities. Sneaking dudes around to kill harvesters. Protecting your own harvesters. Taking control of special points on the map (such as refinery depots and defendable spots). Allocating funds to where they count; as in, do you spend your starting money to build up a strong economy or a rushing force? You need to micromanage your units if you want to take advantage of their secondary abilities, which can aid in hit 'n run tactics. The ability for a lot of things to go on water opens up even more channels for strategic possibility. In a nutshell this game has more different ways to try strategic tactics than ever before.

The minimap is as it should be: simple.

The music is better than RA2's music, and much better than RA1's atmospheric but mostly boring music.

Was worth the download to show EA "I'm not buying this crap".
EA didn't notice.

Anyways, I find it fun an enjoyable, definately not as fun as red alert 2, but in red alert you could mind control stuff as the soviets and have your own bustling citties, civilian cars and civilians were mindcontrolable and destroyable, now they have no civilians, and i think it's retarded, the best times i had involved protecting civilians from a bunch of made up situations,w ell that and mind controling them into police chances etc etc.

Red Alert 3 is great, not the greatests by far, but it is fun and enjoyable.

That giant jap robot? so what, it's only in the missions, it's not like people will be online using them.

Personaly I have some ideas about how to sue it in some custom maps (to kill them in a single player mission ro something)

The main problem that people have with RA3 and the main reason many people don't like it is because of what thier expectations were of the game. They expected RA3 to be a more serious, dark and gritty storyline that was more "real to modern times" than RA2 was. They expected state of the art graphics and good gameplay.

What they got was a silly, fun, light atmosphere with lots of futiristic weapons and some unrealistic ones. The graphics weren't the best in the world but they fit with the atmosphere. The only thing they got that they expected was the awesome strategy and gameplay. Otherwise, thier hopes were dashed.

To someone who had been anticipating this game for a long time and had lots of expectations for it, they were dissappointed. For someone who had different expectations for the game (like me; I expected great gameplay with tons of depth and lots of strategy), the game was great. To someone who had never heard of the Red Alert series before, this game was great as well.

That is the problem, and that is how it has been all throughout the entire life of CNC. Change is the problem. People are just so resistant to change in the CNC universe. They are so stuck to thier Nostalgia that they will bitch about every new game feature that conflicts with "CNC tradition". If they looked at RA3 from an objective standpoint, without any previous "CNC nostalgia" to sway thier opinion, I think most people would actually enjoy the game.

By the way, already 3 people vote it totally sucks and 2 that it sucks a little, and 1 not good not bad.

Would RA2/YR get those votes? I think none, maybe people who totally don't like RTS games and shouldn't buy it in the first place, my point is, RA3 could be a nice game to play, but as a followup to RA2 it sucks. Means EA Games fails again. IN MY OPINION, but I'd like to see more votes.

Now, RA2 would probably get the same votes, perhaps possibly worse. With YR pretty much everyone agrees that it was complete and utter ****.

Why do people expect a "dark and more serious" game from Red Alert 3? RA2 was silly and absurd which made it fun. If you want a dark and serious game, play C&C 3 or something.
My only gripe with RA3 is that the Empire slighlty overdoes it on the absurdity thing... giant mechas, transformers, nearly all weapons are energy based, a floating schoolgirl with psychic attacks,... but that just makes me not enjoy playing with the Empire. I still like the Soviets and Allies and I like fighting the Empire but I'm not fond of playing with them. For the rest I like the game a lot

The problem is RA2 and YR are decent games, but nothing more, as they have alot of balance issues (YR more then RA2). You also can't compare the 2 games really; there are I think almost 10 years inbetween RA2 and RA3; RTS has evolved immensely. I do agree though that the connection RA2-RA3 is poorly worked out, but that's not a reason to call it a bad game. Derek claims that it has a formidable multiplayer and he is the expert on that front, I believe him.

Concerning the development of the game, EA can give themselves a big thumbs up; they really tought about the game and the beta made the balance, obviously the focus point of this game, in the real version really neat. The real problem though will still come, as it is not very interesting for EA to keep supporting this game for a longer period, so balance will stop to improve after a while.

The game play means more to me than anything with a couple of teammates, that's why I would like the game, you just keep to yourself if you like a game because the game has story you find appealing (I could read books with more story than that :| )

Havent played RA3 myself, but the two biggest issues for me on that is a) money, and b) the DRM business.

For example I bought Mass Effect (with the same DRM) and I have to run the game with a cracked *.exe so that it doesnt connect to the internet and stop me playing it at all. So a legal owned and bought game and Im resorted to downloading illegal cracks to play it?
That stinks, and whats worse is it hasnt stopped piracy at all. If it had, then Id maybe accept it, but for example Spore remains the most pirated game in all history, and its only been out a short while!

I would be less upset if I thought that EA would go "ok, we made a bad and unpopular decision, that has, ultimately, not stopped piracy in any case, so we will take the 'limited install' DRM away and work on something else, giving back freedom to those who actually bought the game".

However experience tells me EA dont listen to customers, and when they make as money as they do, they dont really need to.
I only hope the remaining bastions of non-EA gaming hold steadfast (mostly valve, rockstar and blizzard).

Of course this is about the game per se, and I havent played it, but it does look good fun.
For everyone who thinks RA series isnt about being silly and fun, or that the whole series hasnt always been this way, then please go back and replay them.

Top of my head.... tesla coils, bionic dog, random coloured "gems" lying around the place, mind-controlled squid, specially trained dolphins, oh yeah and that whole TIME TRAVELLING business :rolleyes:

You want a serious RTS go play Company of Heroes. RA has, and always will be about being as silly as possible, with silly plot-holed storylines, woman with cleavage/cat suits, stupidly large guns, impossible units etc etc.
Its about having fun, and whilst EA has failed the fanbase and their customers on many fronts, they do appeared to have still remembered that RA is a silly and fun series.

Maybe everyone in here attempting flames or equally poor arguments should take a step back, and just try to have fun. If you dont like it, fine, even say so, but dont try to "prove" it is or it isnt, its a personal thing. Statistics, votes and offensive comments do nothing to change that.

Although it's hard killing those ****ing shogun-batlleships, flamed me all the time...:flame: terror drones don't do ****, the magnetic beam doesn't work, subs don't do squad...

And the acting is just as cheesy as in ra2, so yes, I found it very cool - despite the tirrible pathfinding...

I STILL havent had a chance to try the game as my friend hasnt yet bought it. I'm chomping at the bit to finally review it from actual play of the full game, but cant yet.

To be honest reaction to ra3 has been quite divided, I think even more so than with Generals, where lots of hardcore c&c fans felt it wasnt worthy of the c&c title.

The difference with Generals of course was it was imo perfectably acceptable as it didnt have any legacy in its sub title to live up too, so could sit there as a 'test subject' for the new generation.

I do think that ra3 has recieved generally the worst reviews and responces of any c&c to date, even if that itself isnt that bad. ( c&c 3 did recieve mixed responces as well but I think generally higher).

I think like me a lot of people JUST cant get around the having to play with such ridiculous units and boring ,stereotypical design ideas, which outweighs any good gameplay and balance there is in the MP online side of the game.

My wait goes on for a final verdict however.

Dunno if anybody knows this, but there's a guy called AaSovGod (aka Sunny, not Sunnyinc I believe though) at xwis forums which is also retarded. Each time he makes a post (even if it are serious ones) he gets bashed, with the result the whole topic turns into a flame war. I do hope though DGNF moderators don't let it come this far like xwis moderators (=worst moderators ever, honestly), b/c I see a huge connection the way Sunny and Soviet behave, although I think DGNF members are far more mature then xwis members to handle the situation better. Still though, it would be awfull if DGNF turned into a flame war forums like xwis forums has become. That's why I asked that Soviet779 gets banned, due the only contribution he has for these forums is his flames.

I've been playing through the missions and I initially thought it sucked ass. But as I kept playing, I started getting that same rush that I used to get with RA2/Yr. We'll see as I keep on playing it, but for now it's pretty decent.

Gaming is just a hobby guys. Red Alert 3 succeeds to be a fun and entertaining game to play when you're bored.

Yeah it's not as good as the classic games, but classics are things that can never be beaten.

This day and age, we get movies like Ironman and games like Red Alert 3. Just because they aren't as good as A Clockwork Orange or Tiberian Sun, doesn't make them terrible things, because they still succeed in entertaining us.

Now feel free to rip me apart for comparing A Clockwork Orange to Ironman.

QFT, although I think RA3 sucks compared to RA2. All the hardcore fans of RA2 expected the best of the best from EA Games for RA3, and even though the game is decent, you can't say it matches RA2. Altough with a new game, the creator can add all the stuff which RA2 was missing and make it even better, but they failed badly at that point.

If you except RA3 to be RED ALERT 3, as RA2 was RED ALERT 2 (a superuuber1337or game which no RTS can compare to), then IMO it sucks. I just excepted a whole other game then this. It gives me far from the oldschool feeling like RA2, so in MY opinion it sucks.

@Soviet I agree with alot of things which you say, I don't even know why you are on these forums with all these lamers flaming on you just because they think it's a good game.
