I've followed the water tutorial but everytime I create a river or a water polygon, units just ignore it and drive right through it. Where am I going wrong?

Not sure what your doing wrong, but make sure your water is deep enough for ships to float and travel, and of course to prevent non-naval units from traveling over the water. The water is actually another plane like the land.

By default, the water plane is at 200. In other words, anything above 200 will be land. Anything with height less than 200 will fill in as water. Also, the land under the water has to be at a minimum of 70 below the 200 water plane so ships and submerged vessels have enough room to travel in the water.

Make a test map with your starting land height at 210. Then make your water polygon and dig down at least to the 130 mark or less where you want your body of water. Set your reflection and water height at 200. You'll find all the instructions you need in the tutorial that came with the Worldbuilder editor.

Haha oh yeah, school boy error had put on a water plain but not set any height on it. Set a correct height and the water is now working as it should. It's been a while since I used world builder and that was for Generals.

Have you had any experience with rivers? I've got a second may I'm working on which is actually closer to release then the other one, apart from the two rivers have no texture when in game there just pink. They look ok in WB but loose their texture in game.

I've made several maps with rivers for C&C3/KW games. The Red Alert 3 Worldbuilder works basically the same. Hmmm...haven't run across the pink look. Maybe it's a hieght problem again for your water plane.

Same area of questioning, what texture is a good one to put underneath water to create a nice effect?

Would depend alot on your map, at the moment I'm using sandy dirty textures like dirt_yucatan01 and sand_santamonica01.

Lion, my water was 250 and the land underneath 200 I tried adjusting to 300 water height but still no texture. Even tried placing the textures in the map folder no joy =(. Has anyone got Rivers to work in RA3 yet?

As far as I know, rivers are not supported in RA3. The pink texture you are getting is because of this - the game has no "river" textures anymore and so just uses the pink placeholder texture, unfortunately there is only one water texture in this game.

Err... rivers are in RA3, and the textures are there. I've tested it out myself.

I have had a simialar problem to you. But instead of pink the water is complety clear. Which isnt a great effect. I dropped the land under the water to its lowest level. (Map high started at 300) Once i dropped it the water took on a deep rich appearance. Not sure why but now i have the nice rich sea effect. Try starting your map with a High hight level and drop the sea levels very low.

I use 32 bit targa heightmap, with selected color. When i import it to new map it comes as the same size as the heightmap.
height 350 (elevation 2), R=255, G=0, B=40
height 280 (elevation 1), R=171, G=0, B=255
height 210 (elevation 0), R=0, G=127, B=255
height 130 (shallow), R=0 G=255, B=40
height 0 (deep), R=0, G=0, B=0
