It's Super Bowl weekend, and my home state Pennsylvania team Pittsburgh Steelers are ready to do battle with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. My prediction? Steelers will win of course, and by at least a 14 point spread. Yes, the Cardinals are the underdog in this game, and really have nothing to lose. So I expect them to play fast and loose. They are out of their comfort zone however. The Steelers are in a class by themselves, and know how to handle things when the spotlight is on them. They have a great offense, but even a greater defense that's a breed apart from any of their competition. Of course, the Pittsburgh Steelers do have one thing that no other team has, and that's the TERRIBLE TOWEL (read about that here (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs2008/columns/story?columnist=garber_greg&page=hotread20/garber)). I have my Terrible Towel ready to go this weekend. Every great nation has their own flag, and the Terrible Towel is the official flag of the Steelers Nation. It wields unseen power whenever it is waved. Those of you who ARE Cardinals fans, I wish you good luck, and you have my condolences. You don't have a Terrible Towel, do you?

I kind of like the Steelers but I'll have to cheer for the Cardinals since I'm a Cowboys fan and don't want Pittsburgh breaking the tie for most all-time Super Bowl wins. Both teams are pretty likeable. Also think Kurt Warner being back in the Big Game is great because he was such a great "rags-to-riches" story last time and didn't deserve to just get tossed out when the Rams struggled later on. Fitzgerald is fun to watch and has a great selfless attitude. I like Santonio Holmes and Mike Tomlin, too, plus the Steelers have a couple of former Texas Longhorns on the team in Limas Sweed and Casey Hampton.

If I had to take a guess I think Pittsburgh wins 27-21.

Even if the Steelers win the big game, they still can't match the Vikings record of 4 Super Bowls in 10 years! Skol Vikings!

Skol Vikings, let's win this game,
Skol Vikings, honor your name,
Go get that first down,
Then get a touchdown.
Rock 'em . . . Sock 'em
Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Go Vikings, run up the score,
You'll hear us cheer for more. . .
V-I-K-I-N-G-S
Skol, Vikings, let's go

Arizona has never won the big game before, so I will be rooting for them to defeat the Steelers and become the last of the original teams to finally win the big game.

I'm pulling for Arizona.

The Cardinals are kind of like da Bears long lost, red-headed step cousin. Way back in the day (before the St. Louis Cardinals) they were located in Chicago; yeah, they were rivals, but so what? I still want them to win!

Also, I really am not a fan of the Steelers (for several reasons). The fact that I'm a die hard NFC guy is another reason I'm pulling for the Cardinals.

In any event, good luck to both teams and the fans!

Technically, the Steelers and Chicago Cardinals played 1 season as teammates. During the Depression and WW2 several teams had to combine rosters to stay afloat. Steelers and Cardinals spent one season as a comnined team because WW2 caused a player shortage.

Also, the NFL folded many of the original teams or combined them. Small towns used to accomodate a lot of the NFL teams. Towns with 250k people or less could get an NFL team. Duluth Minnesota had the Eskimos, even though the town had like 200k people at most.

I also like looking at all the early Super Bowl highlights, because all the players were "light weights" by todays standards. Running backs were like 180lbs, linebackers were like 250lbs. They make todays players look like giants.

Some of the NFL's greatest Quarterbacks like Frank Tarkenton and Bart Starr wouldn't even make it in todays game. They would be declared undersized. We have this notion today that you have to be a certain size to even get considered.

I should be pulling for the Cardinals because they knocked the Eagles out which they knocked out my Giants but Big Ben is just awesome.

Pittsburgh already is ahead there with 4 Super Bowls in 6 years.

Well Pittsburgh won...

So some friends and I went down towards U Pitt (its very close to CMU) where the partying was going. We didn't stay long, but got to see the crowd, the burning couches, and the general merriment. My friends took some pictures, I'll see if I can get them sometime.

It was a good game for both teams!

But I can't help but feel Pittsburgh got the advantage on some questionable calls! TBH I'm surprised the Cardinals could cover the 6.5 spread. Props to them! And congrats to the Steelers and the Steeler fans!

Which questionable calls? I think the refs did a decent job, even though I wanted the Cards to win.

Cards defense did a terrible job blitzing/ sacking the Steelers QB, they kept letting him escape and make plays.

The safety penalty helped the Cards (and erased a 20 yard gain), the overturned touchdown helped (saved 4 points) and the fumble that was overturned also helped. I can think of 2 calls that helped the Steelers in particular, but it was mostly bad defense on the final drive and some personal foul penalties that did them in.

However, how did that Harrison guy not get ejected? He was hitting a guy that was down on the ground. That penalty should have been followed by an ejection. His 100 yard TD run was epic though.

Cards had a chance to win, but the defense collapsed on the final drive.

Kurt Warner had a good game, barring the interception return for a td, he did his job.
