View Full Version : Lion's Daily Blurb - Wed., Thurs., March 4-5
One of my fav things to watch on TV is the Travel Channel Network, and specifically the Bizarre Foods (http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Bizarre_Foods) show. Host Andrew Zimmern is perhaps the bravest man on the face of the Earth. I've watched him eat stuff that I wouldn't feed to a dying dog. He travels the world in search of...well, bizarre foods, and then eats them...YUK! I've seen him eat Loko (pig intestines), Rooster testicles, rotted and fermented whale meat, fried donkey skin, deep-fried chicken feet, grilled bat wings, etc. You get the picture. In my neck of da woods I think perhaps the most bizarre food I can recall eating would be Mountain Oysters. It comes from a pig, and you can guess what part. I live in redneck country, and some peeps still carry on the tradition of eating certain parts of animals that are undesirable to average folks. Stuff you won't find on any local menu, like pig tongue, brains, snout, testicles, and feet. I've eaten pig tongue, and it is quite tasty. Even the tail of the cow is considered a delicacy in my local. I'll stop here cause I'm sure some of you are either starting to get hungry from reading this blurb, or may need to take a trip to the bathroom. YOUR turn...what's the most bizarre food you have eaten?
I've eaten snails once in france, and also KFC fried chicken was very disgusting :p can't belive people get in line to eat it...

Dog...when I was stationed in Korea in 1983. Went to a local restaurant to eat and got the Korean words for beef and dog mixed up. Dog being Gaegogi, and beef being Bulkogi. :yuck:

For me it would have to be sea cucumbers and fried ants with coconut sugar. The sea cucumbers are pretty much yuck, but the ants are actually pretty crunchy!:yummy:

Ive had shark steak, I guess wood pigeon isnt that exotic but not everyones tried it.
Wild boar was very good.
But for bizarre, I think my friends and I made-up on camp recipe of imperial mint pasta and fruit pastilles bolognese probably tops it!:p

I would say for me there two categories here. One being off a menu and one out in the populous. Menu I would say Cobra. Out amongst the people an egg with partially developed duck inside. Imagine what are ancestors 1000's of years ago ate.

I think escargot, calamari, and sushi is about as exotic as it has gotten for me. (France, Italy, and California respectively.)

Most exotic things I've eaten is probably octopus and aligator. Octopus is salty and doesn't really taste of much, maybe a bit fishy, horrible rubbery feel to it. Aligator, I can't actually remember, I guess it wasn't that special. I know it was a bloody expensive sandwich though at £8.
Not really eaten anything crazy or gross, not that I know of anyway. :shifty:
Only thing I can think of that's 'exotic' for me I ate and still eat is sushi. I can never get me enough sushi. But around here. Opossum is a normal dish in the outer counties of Bowling Green... I have a recipe for it...

I've ate Rattlesnake before. Tastes likes a good ribeye steak. I've also have eaten Squid (AKA Calamari) I wouldn't recommend eating that it feels and tastes like your eating a rubber tube in your mouth.

You had bad calamari.
When done right, squid... anything really, will be delicious.
