View Full Version : Gamespot C&C4 First Details!
Gamespot has the FIRST DETAILS (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/commandandconquer4/news.html?sid=6213111&om_act=convert&om_clk=newsfeatures&tag=newsfeatures;title;1) on the final chapter in the Tiberium Series. Yes, you heard right...the final chapter. Gamespot interviewed designer Samuel Bass to get some of the details of C&C4. Here's a snip:
GameSpot: We're pleased to be the first to officially reveal Command & Conquer 4 to the world. Give us an overview of the game...we understand there will be many changes and new additions.
Samuel Bass: Command & Conquer 4 is pretty different from anything we've done before. While we're staying true to the core of real-time strategy play, we've also dug deep into what makes Command & Conquer the series it is and come up with a game we're really excited to finally reveal to the world.
The most immediately impactful piece of information is that with Command & Conquer 4, we're finally taking the story arc that began with Tiberian Dawn to its dramatic conclusion. After years of enigmatic references to "Kane's plan" and "ascension," we felt it was high time we pulled back the curtain and really explored the what, why, and how of this universe we love so much.
However, that's just the story. There's a ton more that's new to C&C4 besides--notably our class system, our RPG-like elements and persistent player profiles, our massively revised multiplayer backend, and a hundred other things worth talking about.

notably our class system, our RPG-like elements
This could be great for versatility, but I'm not exactly holding my breath expecting awesomeness from it....

Hmm. We'll see how it goes.
In that screenshot.. the crashed ship looks kinda like the Zodiak.. But then it also looks like a drop ship? From the art picture.
Not to mention the obvious Mammoth Mk II rips. Hmm.. Whatever. I'll still buy it.

Sounds interesting, and I'm glad they're going to finally "wrap-up" the tiberian storyline. Which is of course bull****; they'll no doubt leave some sort of openness to the ending.

I thought the mammoth mark II was big.. but that thing... wow.. btw to sidewinder, yes that is it.. because it looks rather close to the 1 in tib sun firestorm :), but seeign the next picture I think its something else... because i dont remeber it being THAT big. (picture 2 shows the same ship in the air.)

Wow, I remember way back when there were Kanes wrath and red Alert 3 wishlists, I placed a post regarding moveable bases, it appears that wish has been fulfilled.
Still, its sad to see it go, but maybe EA will make another series starting off 100 years after the end of this game.

Hmm I havent thought of that.... knowing that C&C is worth a lot of money... why end it? I do hope they make soemthing else to at least continue... but lets hold off of whats gonan happen tills its been released :P because we dotn want to get any bad ideas that were not needed to be said.
Also, 5v5? wow that will be fun... and very laggy :\

And now hardcore pc players can't say "it was dumbed down for the xbox 360/ps3" because it's exclusively for the PC!
IMO the best part of that interview

kinda reminds me of supreme commander
Supreme commander is the first thing that came to my mind. That big nod thing makes me think of the EXPERIMENTAL SPIDERBOT (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/supcom/images/thumb/e/ed/Monkeylord_insitu.jpg/450px-Monkeylord_insitu.jpg) from SupCom, especially since it has a red laser on top too. Or even the EXPERIMENTAL GUNSHIP (http://wikicheats.gametrailers.com/images/thumb/d/d6/Supreme_Commander_Soul_Ripper_01.jpg/180px-Supreme_Commander_Soul_Ripper_01.jpg).
Not hating, just saying they remind me of them. :shifty:

First thing I thought was Supreme Com too with the MCV's that are giant combat units.
By the way, are those nod mechs holding shields? :chin:

Wasn't that called Total Annihilation? (oh the irony)

I love Tiberium Wars. Kanes Wrath has a stupid story, I dont like terrorists and don't like acting like one. Red Alert three I would like to get my money back on. Plastic toys for the under 6 netendo crowd. If C&C 4 looks anything like that I wont go near it, I will just play generals and up to Kanes, kanes has fun skirmish maps thaks to all you wonderful map makers, keep up the good work guys.

The irony is palpable.

I was saying that it reminded me of Supreme com, not where the idea first came from...

Sounds interesting.
But with all the explenation, I have a feeling the undertone still is the same.
Unlocking new abilities all you want, there is a cap in what you can get: all units and support powers.
So, play skirmish and singleplayer and all you want, first time online you are still going to get your butt kicked. Cause experience will always overshadow easy gameplay (Even faster then otherwise me thinks.). An experienced commander will still be able to overcome the situation and adapt, even if there is no base building or whatnot. And online is the best experience you can get, hands down. :chin:
The casual player who wants to have fun online and win for a change will still get nothing out of it.
So, I hope they test this new system of theirs good enough, cause I see some smart kids taking advantage of a gameplay shortcoming otherwise. And the forums will overflood with rampaging wildmen again, and this time it will be a bit harder to cure then a simple patch with numbers.
But, in EA we trust, no? :o
Meh, what am I saying.
I will only still buy this game for the story. I promised to myself not to go to deep into this crap. After all, I am a casual player with some free time on his hands. After this vacation I am in, I won't be this active.

casual players will never beat serious competitive players though, since they play for different goals....generally a casual players plays for fun whilst a competitive player goes purely for the ranking...
and in all honesty, the general strategy of spamming basic tanks isnt realy as fun as being an idiot and sending 100 buzzers at the enemy just to watch them go "WTF?!?!" XD
