In the form of an earthquake:

It hit just some 50 miles off the coast of here with an estimated magnitude of about 6.9, and woke me from my slumber around 5am-ish. At first I thought I was going crazy, since I was just woken up and everything seemed to be moving...which turned out everything WAS moving. My dogs were going absolutely nuts.

Anyone ever woke up to something like that, which makes you question reality as you wake up?

We just got one here. Minor, like just enough to make me dizzy, but yeah end of days and whatnot.

Never been in one myself, but it sure does seem like the earth is angry lately.

I understand that if you're lucky enough to be outdoors, and away from any hazardous collapsing things during in earthquake, it can actually be quite unique and enjoyable. I've even heard that if you have a view (perhaps from a hill) of a large stretch of earth, you can see waves of vibration moving across it. Neat!

We generally have a few earthquakes every year in Iceland. And every few years we get big ones. I've never been at the epicenter of one of those big ones, and I imagine that gets quite disconcerting. But otherwise it becomes very normal. Hehe.

However, I regularly question reality when I wake up. Usually because of a dream I've just had.

I live in California, and I've seen about four or five earthquakes in my time (and by "seen" I mean "slept right through them"). Think we just had one a couple months ago maybe 50 or 60 miles north of where I live, I didn't even know about it until it appeared on the front page the next day.

the news networks here tried to stir up a panic with warnings for a tsunami because of the chile earthquake...
i looked at a world map and realised that New Zealand was sitting directly between the epicentre and Sydney.... guess we wont be getting hit by that tsunami if there even is one....

Never experienced one. I heard about Chile one, but I didn't hear of this one. Everything ok?

Never been through one either.

Two good friends of mine down in Santiago but happily we're far enough out of the area to be fine. I was quite worried for a while though.

Funny how these natural disasters come in bouts.

(or not, Im sure someone with more geographical knowledge than me can explain why this is the case!)

Well, theoretically the pressure builds on the moving faults until one gives...and since they're all attached somewhere it stands to reason that one large slip could cause another slip on the other side of the plate (Hence, quakes on both sides of the Pacific).

But that's just from the geographer in me...I'd need a geologist to tell me the more complicated version.

When I was in California, I was woken up one time by a tremor. Never experienced anything major, though.

Plus simple random distribution is going to mean that sometimes 2 unrelated earthquakes will happen in close proximity.

So yea.... earthquake here....then Chile...then a tsunami heads across the Pacific...then one hits Okinawa from the South China Sea....what the eff is going on these days?

Theory A: The Western Pacific was unleashing retribution to the Eastern Pacific.

Theory B: DotA is real, and somebody's playing as Sand King.
