Possible RPG themes:

Inquisitor:
Setting: Warhammer 40k
Characters: Ordo Xenos (my personal favorite, although other Malleus and Hereticus would be allowed if popular opinion wished to deal with those instead) players take on the role of Deathwatch and Inquisitional Aides (the GM, Me, would control the inquisitor/deathwatch captain, allowing for more quickly progressing storyline. Those unfamiliar with the warhammer 40k storysetting should email me for details, but basically far future, mankind faces enemies on several fronts, from the brutal ork clans, to the cunning and aloof eldar, and the menace of the tyranids (these enemies all fall under the classification of alien, and therefore are the target of the ordo Xenos, Ordo Malleus hunt the daemons of chaos and their foolish worshippers, and Ordo Hereticus hunt witches and mutants amongst the human populace)

Behind Enemy Lines
Setting: Alternate Reality, Present Day. The insidious forces of ERIS, using terrorist and conventional warfare have laid waste to a greater portion of the globe. Technology is essentially as is today, with some improvements due to the 10 years of war following the preliminary ERIS strikes
Characters: Take on the role of a group of commandos deployed in ERIS controlled space, tasked with guerrilla warfare. Options of freedom fighters can be discussed with the GM

Unnamed Post Apocalyptic Wasteland Cliché
Setting: 200 years from today, alternate world. The world has been nearly destroyed. 100 years from now, technology has advanced at amazing levels, humans establish a colony on the moon and a small research station on the asteroid belt. Then something happened. One day, without worning, the dead rose. Not all the dead, just those who had died within the last 100 or so years. Noone knows for sure why, but they tore the newly unified world into shreds, nuclear stockpiles, mothballed in this age of peace were recovered and used in a last ditch effort to halt the tide of living dead, unfortunately, while (re)killing many of the zombie legions, they also succeeded in killing many humans due to radiation, once again swelling the ranks of the shambling dead. 100 years later, the ecology is ruined, with the sea level rising and the atmosphere degrading, all available land has turned into desert wastes, overrun by zombies. Humans struggle to survive in this horror, scrambling for caches of lost technology. Basically mad max with zombies with a little bit of waterworld thrown in
Players: take the role of scavenger/zombie hunters. Fairly self explainitory

Aliens:
Setting: Aliens (the movie) universe
Characters: take the role of UNSC Marine Corp. basically the players will command a strike team similar to that found in the movie, although remember, there are plenty more dangers in the universe than the aliens, other alien species wreak havoc in certain sectors, but as always, the biggest danger comes from other humans, corporate militia, rogue UNSC, Pirates, all willing to kill for whatever prize they seek

Matrix
Setting: Matrix (in particular, the setting is maintained, but events specifically in the movie are not. Recommended source material is the animatrix, and the matrix comics)
Characters: take on the roles of a crew of warriors, battling sentinels and agents. Lots of potential to do really cool things, in particular kungfu fight scenes and the like.

Enlightened:
Setting: Alternate world, current day.
Characters: players take the roles of people trying to survive the apocalyptic events threatening to engulf the world, angels and demons have returned to walk the earth, though neither side seem to care about the humans, these cataclysmic times have awoken powers within the deeply spiritual, although most are driven mad by these gifts, the few with the strength of mind must use their powers to combat the encroaching armies. The hosts of the heavens and the undeworld stand poised to turn your world into a wasteland, and only the enlightened will survive. this is essentially a Call of Cthulhu style game, dark and evil. you know the drill, boy meets girl, boy uses girl in sacrifice to heinous gods, gods devour boy and half the US

Each of these Settings is significantly more detailed in my mind, but rather than posting a huge long background on each of them right away I have simply put a brief explaination up, anyone who has questions on any of the settings can ask here, or contact me via email at jaggedtoothgrin@hotmail.com for further details. I am not posting this to try to usurp any of the other roleplaying threads or ideas, merely to post a few that I have though of doing, incase people should want to play them. Lemme know what you think

This one is looking to rock the boat fellas. :D

For those even vaguely interested in Behind Enemy Lines, it is rather loosely based upon a comic penned by moi and written by our dentally challenged comrade here. bel.keenspace.com (http://www.bel.keenspace.com/) is still up (we abandoned the comic a while ago but have been in tentative negotiations with E.R.I.S. to continue hostilities.) for those interested in further background.

As for your 40K idea, JTG, it might fly, there are a few people on the forum who either play or used to. So, you might have a winner there. Upon further consideration, the 40K universe is almost comparable to the Shadowrun one for the sheer number of possibilities available.

Dunno 'bout your Future-Zombie idea though, don't think it would generate much enthusiasm in the ranks.

Aliens, let's hope you don't have ambitions of trying to thrust the pen+paper RPGs character creation system down our throats(obviously)! :D

Matrix, like 40K and Shadowrun, has a lot of potential, and room for over-the-top psycho-fests of bullet time and other crazy ****. A serious contender IMHO.

Enlightened huh? Oh, you're an evil one, indeed, my friend. If this baby goes down, I demand at least one cameo appearance of Lovecroft's finest some time down the track. Insanity, here I come...

I'd absolutely love to play in an RPG based on Inquisitor personally - although I don't play the TT game, Inquisitor looks amazing (again, I haven't had the chance to actually play it) :( Enlightened also looks fun, and the future Zombies might pull in some of the horror-genre obsessives on the DEN. I'm not fond of more conventional military-centric RPGs, but any of the two ideas given could also work. Not so sure about the matrix, though, but it might be fun.

Inquisitor, though, could be amazing. Ideally, IMHO, the storyline should focus around a Radical Xenos inquisitor, as this allows his henchmen (the players) to plausably pick from a wide variety of 40k universe - and still fit in alot of good old-fashioned Chaos bashing if needs be. :p

My personal 'project' that I'm planning at the moment is steampunky, so it doesn't clash with anything that's up there. :)

inquisitor is my favorite aswell, as chris can attest, i am somewhat obsessive when it comes to the deathwatch. personally id rather see deathwatch rather than radicals (or possibly, and i am liking this idea, a radical inquisitor and a deathwatch captain forced together through circumstance. the best of both worlds) chris can also probably remember a few of my other obsessions fitting in nicely with the theme X3
and, if people like multiple ideas, i can always run a few options (although maybe not at once)

I like the idea of a 40K and aliens RPG. 40K for the sheer amount of **** to blow up and aliens for...well, pretty much the same deal. What is a deathwatch anyway? And one more thing. Will we have to play as humans or is the option open to play as orks and tyranids and the like?

In my opinion, be it humble or not, I think Matrix could work. We ran a Matrix RPg on this other forum I was on and, though the RPGs were much...simpler(I.E. Not quite so much background), there was a lot of interest in it. It also lets you tie in with the movies and create your own stories behind the unexplained characters on the fly. Should be fun.

An alien RPG would only work if we had like two players controlling a very large amount of cannon fodder... or ruthlessly killed players without reason. For what is aliens without ruthless, mass killings? :)

Inquisitor sounds pretty promising though. Not too crazy on anything else (except world war and voes super secret project ;)) though.

If I told you guys about a vampire RPG I had planned that was pretty much as open ended as possible, what would you think?

Artificial Idiot
08-30-2004, 01:45 PM
I'm all for open ended RPG's :)

(In one or two (when that fragger starts) at the moment, a lot of fun)

Although, depends what kind of vampires you mean.....

VO

Deathwatch are an elite branch of the Space Marines attatched to the Ordo Xenos who are dedicated to hunting down alien threats (Grey Knights are an equivalent anti-chaos group who typically work with the Ordo Malleus).

IMHO in a 40k RPG, it would be very hard to have orks as possible player characters, and IMPOSSIBLE to have Tyranids - all 'nids are part of the Hive Mind, and don't have individual character, personality or even will. Even with everyone playing Space Marines it would be pretty difficult, as they all would share similar personality and loyalties, while with a mixed retinue of an Inquisitor it would be all the more interesting.

Pitch us the idea for that vampire RPG. :)

Want me to type it up here or what? And what kind of vampires you know of, Aies?

Artificial Idiot
08-30-2004, 02:08 PM
Yeah, type it up here.

And I was just wondering what element of vampires your drawing on. The horror element, the aristocratic element, the ghey campy, buffy the va... ugh, I'm just stopping there.

Sorry. Don't want you to peek. :p

You'll understand when you're older.

Jagged Tooth Grin
08-30-2004, 07:19 PM
ok, to put it simply, i am not going to allow alien player characters in inquisitor. orks wouldnt fight alongside an inquisitor, tyranids are out for all kinds of reasons, necrons are obviously out, the tau and kroot, and the eldar, could theoretically work, but as i have a deep hatred for them, and the deathwatch would most likelt kill them on sight, im not allowing those either
the way i see it, players will be inquisitorial retinue, imperial guard veterans, sages acolytes that kind of thing, unless i could really be sure you knew your stuff id not allow the deathwatch to be anything but npcs

Who here is up for my TT RPG?

Jagged Tooth Grin
09-01-2004, 02:54 AM
from the look of the poll so far, the top 2 popular ones are inquisitor and shadowzero. remember people, you can vote for more than one rpg, but that doesnt mean just vote for everything, vote for options you actually want to see, this not only helps people judge how the forum feels about their personal idea, it also lets them know what ideas are popular and which arent, and gives them a base to expand and improve. i for one would enjoy seeing ShadowZero continue, but i know wes is busy and may need a break for a while, ww2.1 would probably work, and of course id happily run any of my own ones (although inquisitor remains my favorite)
BA, i think your TT game would be much more suited to a peice of fanfiction, not a roleplaying game, perhaps if you went and wrote a decent sized peice of fiction using your idea, it may inspire people to want to play, but for now it seems that support for that particular game is lacking. (seems strange for a C&C forum, but perhaps you arent focusing on the right elements?) as for everyone else, if you want to do one of the roleplaying games listed, then vote, if you dont, then do not. but please show support for the ones you do want to play, it helps the guys running them know what to do. and if theres an idea you'd like to see addressed that isnt covered in there, pitch it, either here, if you want to do the GMing, or to one of the other GMs if you'd rather someone else do it.
ill close voting on the poll soon.

I do support the SSR RPG, all I'm asking is who would like to try my RPG out. (I'm also considering to go for ShadowZero once I figure out a way to slither my way through and make the story go smoothly without too much trouble) I see nothing wrong with a TT RPG. There are two reasons why I created it: one, I wanted the DGNF to have a TT RPG of its own (PCNC has one,) and because I thought "Hell, if EA isn't going to make it, why not we make our own TT up?"

Hope you know what are you doing...Trying to chew up that many RPG's at a time might be fatal for everyone. Especially for GM.

SW Freak

So, by the lack of any type of comment on it whatsoever, can I assume that there's no interest in the idea itself? Would people like me to post more info about it? Somebody tell me something!

Master Chris

SW freak, your vampire RPG has potential, though I suspect it's going to have a while to wait before it eventuates.

Heh, I didn't notice that you could vote mutliple times. So, in light of that error I'll post my other selections:

Actual vote: Strongholds of Hope.

Other votes: Shadowrun, SSR, TT, WW2.1, SW_freak's vampire RPG, Inquisitor, and BEL.

Tolio

I like the SSR, ShadowZero (despite my not posting in there, which I'll do so in Chapter 3.), and I'm all for the Alien RPG. :color1:

Ah. Cool. Thanks. Well, I'll post the rest of the info later in a different thread and then...stand in line, I suppose.

Heh. Don't blame me, i voted ALL the options in the poll...

I was bored.

SW Freak
09-02-2004, 03:52 PM
Ah. That would have been my second guess: For the person who's way too bored. Someday one of the presidents of America is gonna get bored and sees what happens if he forgets to talk to the actual silo controlly people before hitting the big red button.

Frankly, that would DO us a favour ...

Tolio
09-02-2004, 06:28 PM
If I could I'd like to take control of that Alien RPG. :p Has 3 votes, a second-best.

Jagged Tooth Grin
09-02-2004, 08:44 PM
actually because chris didnt realise that you could vote for multiples, inquisitor is at 5, so aliens is at 3rd place. in any case, im not quite prepared to relinquish that one right away.
so far the most popular appear to be Shadowzero and Inquisitor at 5 votes each, and SSR second at 4.
i propose therefore, that i will now post up Character Creation Guidelines for Inquisitor, meanwhile SSR and S0 can continue running as usual. i reckon we can keep a third running for a while. ill go post them now.

What about a Mafia-esque type thing? Mobs and stuff?

True... since then he'd launch the missile without having anyone open the silo first :p

and we all know what that does from RA2 :D

How do people feel about "tribute RPGs"? I mean the ones that are based off movies and games and such. Like the Matrix and Aliens ones proposed here. How would people feel with a Metal Gear-esque RPG? (Sorry. I'm really hyped on MGS right now...) I have a plan that could work, a possible time set and a setting. I think it could work. There are few enough RPers that you can have an even amount of Boss-type terrorists and agents. If people like, I can give an outline of my plans.

Artificial Idiot
09-19-2004, 02:22 PM
I don't really mind "tribute" rpg's, as long as...

A) I'm Interested
B) I think it's possible to do

But the general feeling here used to be against them, so we'll just have to wait and see. :)

SW Freak
09-19-2004, 02:25 PM
So what's your opinion on an MGS one, Aies? Would you be interested? Is it possible to do?

Artificial Idiot
09-19-2004, 02:27 PM
I know frag all about MGS, I'll stay out of that one :p

And that said, I have no idea if it's possible because of the above.

Jagged Tooth Grin
09-19-2004, 06:08 PM
SW: the biggest problem i see with your RPG suggestion, is that you want to have players on both sides of the battle. this is a pretty bad strategy, works much better with all the players as the good guys, or all them as the bad guys (but id suggest good guys) the same goes for you BA, i dont think it will work well.
WRT tribute games, i actually own the aliens RPG, and the matrix is so hashed together from various comic and cyberpunk sources, that its fairly easy to have a game that can handle it well, i honestly think a MGS one would not work very well, since MGS was always a fairly solitary game, if you have a good idea for it, id write it as a fanfiction first, if people like it, then suggest an RP sequel or something like that, but i am doubtfull of the style of game it would be. all in all, i liked MGS as a game and a story, i liked MGS2 as a game, but hated it as a story, and i suspect MGS3 will be cool, but i will reserve judgement on the story part, since in likelyhood it will be awefull.
