PLEASE ONLY VOTE ON THE POLL IF YOU HAVE BOTH READ THIS THREAD AND ARE INTERESTED IN PLAYING IN ONE OF THESE RPGS IN THE FAR FUTURE. (i.e not soon). I only plan to run ONE rpg, so a vote for all three does not mean all 3 will go ahead.

Ok guys, I plan to run a new RPG sometime in the future (giving time to other rpgs to start, and for me to work out a decent background). I know where I think WOC went wrong, and have worked these ideas out to get rid of the flaws WOC had, as far as I can.

I basically have 3 ideas of RPGs I am likely to run. What I'd like anyone who is interested in them to do is vote just so I get a rough idea of which one probably is the best idea. I've done some really short synopsi for them, so that's cool.

In all of these RPGs I'd like to try and run an open world where players can add background and such, and have a little more control over the story than before (and definately more than in WOC). I don't plan on starting any of these very soon, so this is just a thread to judge public opinion on the three main ideas that have emerged for an RPG I may be possibly running in the depths of time.

1. WOC "2".
This is basically a fantasy RPG that bears very little relevance to Winds of Change apart from the name. It will be more open, have a MUCH less restricting plot, and it won't matter if people drop out compared to the first instance. It will probably include more fantasy cliche than the origianal, but I am PROBABLY still going to insist it's humans only. The main plus point is every character from WOC will be easily transferable into this one if you're thus inclined. I only have very rough ideas for this so far, but there won't be much you won't expect if you have any knowledge of the fantasy genre.

2. Steamshadow
Set in an alternate late 19th century, steamshadow is steampunk with A Life of Shadow influences. In a world where steamguns have put down the American Rebellion, Napoleon III rules the French Empire, and an awesome Air Armada threatens the sovreignty of the United Commonwealth of Great Britain. Expect a gritty, but fantastic world, where a magical mineral called aether drives technology equivalent to a science fiction world but of course with a victorian spin to everything. This RPG would probably require a little bit of period knowledge, but not anything extensive. I've probably played about with ideas for this RPG most out of the three so far, which could be a good or bad thing.

3. StarCrossed (working title)
Basically a mix of star wars, the 40k universe, and blue hair (as well as lots of other science fiction influences), Starcrossed would be a large-scale space opera featuring mystic powers, intergalactic space pirates, talking computers (damn you AIES), battles between good and evil and where technology is a means to an end, not the focal point of the story. I'm quite willing to let people make up alien races, a HUGE variety of characters and technology and such for this, as the setting would be a massive and open galaxy although the storyline would dictate what planets we visit. I've put forewards ideas similar to this in the RPG forum before (including giant space bugs), and would quite like to run an RPG like this. This would probably be a very easy RPG for new players to jump into, as well as catering for RPG forum veterans.

About time we had a Sci-fi RPG. Another WOC would be good in the future, but I quite fancy a change of scene. And to be honest, Science Fiction seems the best scene change for me! :D

Rock and drole, man!

I still favour the steam-shadow, despite the blue hair being thrown in my path ;)

Btw: There will be Blue Hair in Steam Shadow, right?

There are certain... treatments... members of the Guildic Aristocracy can get, yes. :)

Edit : If anyone has any comments I'd like to hear them.

Don't make me choose!

Honestly, I'd love to see WOC #1 concluded with a decent length narrative, I'll admit there were some problems but from what I could decipher from the plot, there was going to be a whole lot of cool if we could have just dragged WOC a few posts further.

That said, WOC2 is very tempting by virtue of the fantastic background and amount of effort you put into the WOC universe the first time around.

Steampunk sounds so absolutely cool in concept that it deserves my vote.

Yet, Starcrossed is also very, very tempting...

Starcrossed just sounds really, really good. Especially the last sentance. (Since I've always kinda wanted to jump into one of these, but the active ones are continuations of RPGs before my time.)

StarCrossed sounds good.

WOC just never piqued my interest, SteamShadow sounds good but I'm not too crazy about the Victorian period and know next to nothing about it. StarCrossed sounds pretty cool though, so it gets my vote :D

Ok, it looks like StarCrossed is winning pretty substantially. I'll put up some more information about that soon, but will still be willing to do one of the others if there's demand for it. I plan to try and make any future RPG I run as acessable as possible for new players. :)

Dammit, I wanted Steamshadow. First Bush, now this... There's a lesson there. Never let Amurrikans vote on anything!

i agree with wes, steamshadow sounds nifty and different, if ya wanted starcrossed you shoulda joined Inquisitor :P

However, the advantage of Starcrossed over Inquisitor is that you can draw from a countless number of Sci-fi influences. So why settle for starters when you can have a three corse meal? :p

SteamShadow would have been good and different too. But not many people have much knowlage of the Victorian era aside from a dodgey remake of Oliver Twist they were forced to watch in school. :p

Yes, yes, and wtf?

I voted for steamshadow, but I really don't know that era well... the great thing about the future is that we can mold it to what we want it to be... StarCrossed looks good too... BLUE HAIR FOR ALL!!!

Really, I don't have a huge knowledge of the 19th century, so I don't think this should be a huge problem. Steamshadow is basically an alternative setting for a science fiction RPG - we aren't relying on dubiously scientific spaceships and handheld lasers, rather dubiously scientific airships and steam-powered machineguns. :p I'll put up a bigger blurb for both this and Starcrossed very soon to prompt some further discussion. :)
