Cheater Psychology

Quote:
So basically, there has to be an incentive for a cheater to cheat, whether it be rank or material prizes. But what types of people cheat? Is it only the low ranked, non-skilled "n00bs" that go ahead and pull their plug or decide to maphack to gain fame? Or can cheaters also be players that are skilled but believe they are so high up on the pedastal that they deserve a couple "freebies" here and there?

Some people say that we Canadians copy our money from the game monopoly...we dont.

OK, so I'm such a noob that I'm still trying to master the single player and I have yet to play multiplayer.

Can someone explain to me what the deal is? If your opponent disconnects from the game in a certain way you don't get credit for the win?

Is there a way to properly disconnect?

A disconnection is logged as a disconnection and not as a loss or win, and therefore has no effect on your ladder rank.

If someone disconnects from a game just to protect their stats, (you can usually tell by the position he's in when he quits) it's cheating, plain and simple. If disconnection is accidental, then you're not a cheater.

Wait, so does just clicking quit mid-game count as a disconnect? Or do they pull out their network plugs or something?

Whump!

Ending the connection to your game by any way other than being defeated (clicking quit/surrender in the game counts as a defeat) or winning is a disconnection. This includes shutting the game down, cutting the internet connection etc.

Money and prizes clearly aren't the main incentive for cheating. A lot of people on games with no prizes cheat - usually because they aren't as good as they'd like to be.

That was very funny, and exactly the type of thing that I would want to do, but never actually do.

Woot for catching cheaters.
